Decided to wait before I gave out any kneejerk reaction to this. It?s grown on me and I like. The only thing that I really needed to get over is how slow Sonic first moves when you press, but I just find myself spin dashing or double jumping to get going quick.

I think Sonic Team have got the level designs right again with this, like the classic Sonic games we all know and love. In Sonic Advance/Rush it was just blind speed and not much skill. But in this they have gone back to the old run, explore, puzzle, run, explore, puzzle style.

The boss battle are hilarious. You start by thinking they?re a return of Dr. Robotnik?s (not Eggman) best inventions to come back and bite you, but then all hell breaks loose.

The game looks amazing. Very colourful and I like the cel-shaded look on the characters, but a little more animation in the backgrounds would have been nice, kind of like in those fan videos. Although having said that I do like the background in the Casino level.

I won?t find myself going back in 10 years listening to the soundtrack with nostalgia. It just isn?t right in this one. They have tried too hard to get it like Sonic 1 but forgot to make it good at this same time. Although the odd drum beat in this brings back the memories.

I think there are about 10 different classes of Sonic fans now that all want their version of a Sonic game and Sega will never please everyone, but this is the closest they have come to in a long while. This feels more like Sonic 1: 2010 than Sonic 4, but it does leave me wondering what the next episode will bring.

Hang on, we asked for a rehash of old levels starring Sonic Rush Sonic? I miss one meeting and that's the official request that went to Sega? No wonder it all went horribly wrong.

You know what I mean, a straight forward 2D Sonic without any stupid new ideas or characters. Apparently nobody mentioned the fans would throw a hissy-fit if he stopped running too soon though.

I think it's a good thing that people are taking the gameplay so seriously, instead of the usual debates about framerates and resolutions and the like.

well said fellas - Sega will never be able to please everyone - but its a shame people are so desperate to hate they miss out on how good this title actually is.

its short, but in my opinion sweet and im thoroughly enjoying getting all the trophies..

Playing the iPhone version and I agree with this completely. It really is very good and fun to play.

Hardly piling on the hate, just giving constructive criticism.
If you are so easily pleased fine, but don't expect everyone else to be.

All we asked for was original zones and don't f**k with the gameplay.
As far as I can see they did neither of those things.

However I will say that the level design is mostly pretty good and this is the best Sonic Game in 16 years.

I wouldn't say I'm easy to please, nor would I say Sonic 4 is perfect, I'm simply saying the physics work here and I don't think the three people who gave it 1/10 are being particularly objective

I dunno. I thought Sketcz was pretty thorough in his posts. Can't comment on katsu and stepp's posts as Sketcz's are the only ones I remember.

While I would argue that there's no such thing as giving an objective score, I got excited and gave it a 10!

Beat Sonic 4 today, got all Emeralds too. I only miss Untouchable and the play all Time attack and beat all with Super Sonic trophies.

Its not a bad game, but Sonic has been SO bad over the last decade that some fans seem to be pleased quite easily. The game has potential and feels like a pilot, I read on the sonic site that Dimps was aware of some issues but suffered a deadline.

Sega would surely listen to the feedback? They always did after all... or wait, they didn't.

Joe you have great taste in cabs & shooters but how you can view this game as anything other than utter ****e is beyond me? I adore Sonic as a character and loved the original, S2, S CD, whilst I personally disliked S&K and S3 as games I wouldn't score them below 7/10. Even Sonic adventure whilst being a hell of a mess was not as car crash as this purely because it was dipping into new realms with control & perspective.

Sonic the hedgehog - Megamix is just a rehash of the prev games but keeps the 2D gameplay elements in check albiet a tad untidy & fan made. It batters the **** out of my experience of S4
I honestly cannot believe any of the positive response here? I usually don't care to even comment on most threads but playing this game quite literally made me sick with disbelief. However the only positive aspect I can give it is in the tiny in screen demo on the 360 dash it looks OK? So maybe people have played it on a 7" screen or something or have terrible eyesight and have rapid memory loss & cannot relate to the lack of in game control essentials

Also for the record I gave it 1 as there was no -10
I'm also getting really tired of the acceptance of churned out uninventive, poorly made, the masses will just accept it because'ness of games lately

I'm delighted they decided to produce a straight forward 2D Sonic without any stupid new ideas or characters.

However, when I play the demo on 360 after playing Sonic & Knuckles (for example, as that's the one I chose to play, though all the other MD Sonics are downloadable via XBLA, bear in mind), it feels COMPLETELY wrong. That doesn't mean I should sit down and say "well, it has good level design, it's great". It's broken, which is why I still haven't splashed the points on the full game when before it came out I was 100% sure I'd be paying however many MS points they wanted to charge me...

Whats wrong with the extra characters by the way? Eurogamer was bitching on Tails too.

Did they forget that Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles ie. the elite of Sonic games all featured optional Tails co-op and a possible Knuckles campaign (which was fun because of his climbing and flying to different parts of the map)? I've played every Sonic game through all possible character combinations just for that ending picture.

I've nothing against friends in a Sonic game, if its being implemented like above.

I agree. I think it more became an issue later on when new character after new character seemed to appear without any real point. Cream the Rabbit. Blaze the Something (cat? bat?). Shadow the Hedgehog. Some other hedgehog. Also it bit them in the ass when the least interesting levels in Sonic Adventure 2 were the non-Sonic levels.

But I had no problem with Tails and really like Knuckles. I even quite enjoyed the big cast in that 32X one.
