Another scathing user review on Metacritic:
Percent waited five years to have no part in the outstanding quality it said. The time change, and specifications are quite unfortunately halfway weather change. This long period of time to waste, I would suspect eyes were doing. GT GT believer like I'm doing is more meaningful if there is no other game, but particularly adhered to buy. I collected the car and painful word.…
After spending weeks on Forza 3 earlier in the year, I'm just not up for GT5 at the moment, I'm more in the mood for Hot Pursuit. I've even been looking for an XBox copy of Burnout 2 to tide me over!
Thanks for all the feedback though. It's nice to see a mix of enthusiasm and frustration as it shows most people are being honest with how they're getting on with it.
Is the livery options limited to colours and whatever stickers a car comes with?

Exactly. Yamauchi famously commented that he doesn't even look at what other driving games do so Polyphony were never likely to put in me-too features. This is Gran Turismo. Same as it ever was but with more stuff. Lots more stuff. It has issues yes. I will say though that if I had to play with a Dual Shock then I probably would never play it. Playing the karting with a wheel though is absolutely superb fun, as is everything actually. Basically the actual driving in GT5 is my favorite ever. It feels spectacular and realistic.

Still, this is GT and I always have been a big fan of the series so I was very curious to see what people think of it, good to see everyones opinion. At this moment I think I will pass it for the time being... biggest reason is not owning a steering wheel and playing this with the PS3 pad is not doing the game justice..

I last bought the dreamcast wheel only to have the novelty wear off after a few days before going back to the pad.

For me, playing with the wheel is more fun. I like having to work hard to develop some skill. YMMV of course. I'm not that into customising and tuning and collecting and stuff (although that may change with this game). I just like driving so the driving has to be really good. It just doesn't do it for me using a pad. With the wheel it feels like I am actually driving. Being an adult with a driving license I already know how to drive a car. All the cars are different of course so take some getting used to. Playing with a pad isn't driving though; it's just not the same. Only on this game though, obviously I play RR with a pad.
Nintendo should get Polyphony to make the next Mario Kart too.
You know how Time Crisis is better with a gun than a dual shock? It's the same with GT for me. Except with a wheel, not a gun obviously. Although that would be pretty sweet - head tracking to lean you out the window and then BAM with the Move controller. Cool.
@ supergoal - there is. GT5. The rally stages remind me very much of Sega Rally in the arcades only it's realistic. You actually EXPECT the wheel and car to react in particular ways just before they do, like if you brake too late and are going to hit someone you know and you expect it and it happens. Same thing with dropping off the banked section of an oval; you know what to expect and that's what happens. I'm all giddy!Last edited by Brad; 25-11-2010, 11:16.

i think using a wheel really adds to the sensation of speed too. you can constantly feel it fighting against you, and every jolt or rumble strip. it really makes you feel involved and under pressure at all times.
i havent got a super quick car in this yet, but with the ferrari f1 in prologue, my wheel vibrates massively just going in a straight line at top speed. you really need to hold on just to go down a long straight.

My initial impressions run with mixed emotions. Gran Turismo 5 is a game that makes you want to hug Kaz Yamauchi then kick him hard in the happy sacks. Without doubt it's a fabulous driving game, with a physics engine the professors at the Large Hadron Collider would be envious of, but then you run in to the shackles of design from previous GT games that you just wish GT5 had broken free from :/

Lovin the music within the game. Especially the amazing London Elektricity song from the Ferrari Italia 458 demo. I have always thought the music in all the Gran Turismos was brilliant
I loved the 2nd half of the intro with the Gran Turismo music with guitars, on the Japanese vers. Hope this is in all the other region versions as it`s wicked? I had a go on arcade and now trying GT mode. Major pissed it won`t let me import Prologue cars. But at least I can import PSP ones easy enough. Was hopin to use them in GT mode but alas Arcade only.
The installs were horrendous and it asked me again after I installed the main game if I wanted to install again, very strange!?!? Or is there more to install after 50 mins?!?
Turns out it needed an extra 2GB to get from 6GB - 8GB
The game plays well the Lamborghini I used felt amazing and some of the engine sounds are brilliant and for different cars. I really like the layout actually in GT mode. I thought there was too much going on, with the giant map in GT4. It looks much cleaner now I believe. The handling of the each car is very different plus so many options to explore. A.I felt a lot better than Prologue can`t wait to test some weather and get some alloys and new cars. No Ferrarri F355 (want them to include this so bad), gonna get an F430 and a couple of Skylines if I can.Last edited by JU!; 25-11-2010, 13:45.
