Took advantage of the ?17.99 price and bought the 360 version from amazon

Should come later in the week and coincide with my lass going away for a few days meaning lights off in the front room and amp cranked up

I loved the first game, to me it was one of the best games this generation so looking forward to seeing how this compares

      I think it's a fantastic improvement.
I'm trying to do it with just the plasma cutter. It is tough going!

I played through the first on hard first time going that route (without knowing there was a trophy attached) and it was fantastic, really tense. Although as you concentrate on a single weapon later on you have plenty of money and ammo to play around with.

A quick question before I dip out of this thread (haven't started it yet, don't want to spoil anything) - does Extraction have any bearing on the story in this? Not sure whether to play that first or not.

As far as I know it doesn't on the main story but it does on the DLC.

Saying that, the Dead Space team re-use a lot of locations in all their games

          - hopefully that isn't a spoiler for you..

Thanks. I'll play that first then, although I'm doing my best to skip paid DLC at the moment.

It's been a while since I played the original (which I adored) so maybe I'm wearing my rose tinted spectacles but I didn't enjoy this one nearly as much. Not saying it's a bad game - I gave it a 7 in the poll - but I definitely found the original's environment and puzzles more interesting and imaginative and the action less predictable.

You could be wearing rose tinted specs yeah, I actualy went back and played the original before playing this one for the first time. The first game has less variety and while the enviroment is more cohesive due to it being set entierly on the same ship, it has less imagination.

The action in the sequel is also more varied and more exciting due to be being more focused on set pecies, in the original pretty much the same thing happened in every room, meaning you got locked in and had to kill everything before you could leave. The sequel's combat is structured in a similar fashion, but its handeled alot better I think becuase they do more to make it less obvious.

I agree that Dead Space 2 is by far the better game...right up until the last few chapters, when it isn't.

Yeah the last few chapters are the only reason i didnt give it 10/10 on here.

Its still better than the original by quite a bit on the whole though.

The one plus side of the endgame is that

Nicole is now well and truly gone. No more of her bloody hysterical nagging! Lol.

It's funny you both say that as I much preferred the latter half of the game, indeed I think the game only really got going from chapter 7 onwards. Everything before that felt tired.

I thought it was brilliant throughout, eclipsed the first in every way. Cant really think why I didnt vote it a 10, other than the whole 'I cant give any game a 10' syndrome I suffer from.

Chapters 7 to 13 are absolutely fantastic but 14 and 15 are a disappointment it's just one chase that goes on too long and you are constantly swarmed by enemies from all angles and it zaps a bit of the in out of it.

Has anybody here beat it on zealot? Hardcore mode sounds too, well, too hardcore for me but I'm contemplating a runthrough on zealot. Just curious to know how difficult it is, how scarce ammo and health pick ups are? If it's very difficult I don't think I can be bothered, I imagine it becomes much more tactical and demands scouring the environments in search of objects to kill enemies using kinesis?

Hands up on the Zealot finish. I didn't think it was all that much harder to be honest epsecially with New Game+, must admit you do take a bit more damage which is the worst part BUT knowing where enemies are coming from and having upgraded armour/weapons really does help.
Didn't manage Impossible both times I tried, need to get to at least Chapter 4 before 1st save and those exploding swines ALWAYS got me, I will do it one day as loads of people have commented it's easier than Zealot.
