Looking back, that was the best aspect of the game by far. The promise of discovery.
The 'discoveries' themselves were arguably not up to much. When I found that there wasn't a lot to discover out on the horizon, the excitement went. Because of this, the game felt to me as though it had a hollow centre.
And so much initial promise! Oh, but for a year's more development time!
/cries...
^^^ DON'T read that if you're still playing the game, you hear me?

The open horizons, the complete freedom, the promise of distant lands... it felt truly giddying. I was beaming for days when I reached that point in my adventure.
I'm another who has yet to finish this. Got it at JPN launch and made a decent amount of progress then got stuck. I'll return to it one day...

Well I am glad I have cracked it open now... when my single player adventures are quiet and all the recent big titles have had there fill. I fully intend to finish this before the new Zelda, which really sparked this need to play WW. Am delighted that I have it all ahead of me... every little detail is gonna bring joy to my experince of it.

After all that time on the water (and that's the games main failing imo) I decided to try tacking into the wind you see, oh you don't? Never mind then...

This game is undoubtley superb... i do have the sudden urge to play it again now.
My gamecube has seen alot of attention, i am going through alot of old beauts ive neglected, paper mario 2 is in my machine at the mo, pikmin 2 was 100%'d last week and im slowly going through the twin snakes... but yeah, Wind Waker again before the release of the new Zelda.
The only problem i had with wind waker was that i had downloaded about 100mbs worth of video before it came out, which ruined alot of it, i wont be doing that for the new zelda, so far i've only seen the e3 2004 trailer..

Regarding WW, it is a lovely game, and one that people will look back to with fondness in years to come. Like a lot of Nintendo's recent stuff, people bitch about trivial little things at first but come to appreciate it in retrospect.
The game has the best use of cel shading I've ever seen, particularly when the realisation dawns that you're actually playing a cartoon.
Unfortunately, I never finished WW and probably never will. Why? The sailing/triforce collection bit. It's a pretty big ointment-spoiling fly that's seen off a lot of players. It's sad to see such a beautiful game disfigured in such a way, it really is.
