Arrgh. I just can't do Rainbow Road.

I was 6 points ahead going into the race and still managed to mess it up.

Someone please tell me there's a shortcut I've missed...

no short cut, but the corners are easier than they look, and the lack of visibility isn't as much of a problem as it first seems.

once you've mastered drifting round those two nasty hair pins near the start, concentrate on keeping things as straight as possible.

slow down a little if you need to for that chicane just before the air tunnel.

One tiny complaint I have is that the kart stats don't appear in multiplayer... only single player. So you have to know what you're choosing beforehand...

All this talk has wetted my appetite so much that I want my copy now, so I have just placed an order with jpngames for it

Anyone else read the verdict of IGN? http://cube.ign.com/articles/458/458922p1.html

              Score? 7.9

Seems they are a bit disappointed with the way DD has evolved... Just as several other websites that have done reviews for the game. They all find the game very entertaining and good, but overall it does not meet their expectations. It seems the game could have been much better...

For those who are already playing DD, do you share the criticism of IGN in that the game is too much simplified?

Also, do you feel the multiplayer part of the game is flawed?

First point, no. Many of the things IGN are whinging about being removed, such as the ability to jump, the major shortcuts etc, I'm actually glad that they have been removed this time around. It makes the game far more level. You have to rely both on your driving skill and your weapons skill

Second point, possibly. Multiplayer racing is still great as always. The battle mode isn't quite as good, mainly as they said due to the fact the arenas aren't as bad or expansive.

You'll just have to wait and see for my review for further analysis heh...

Maybe I'm just absolutely wonderfully brilliant , but I am finding it a little easy. GrandSlam was completed on 150cc mode last night on my first attempt.

Some of the shortcuts are excellent though, and careering down DK mountain is great fun!

The IGN review complains about not having enough unlockables, but there's FAR more than any previous Mario Kart game - you unlock something on almost every gold cup you win!

IGN review was by a woman.
                    I dont trust woman.
But seriously the reviewer compared it to the advances the xbox had made, so basically cos its now online its not as advnced as xbox titles.

The IGN review is possibly the worst piece of videogame journalism ever written.

"the end result in Double Dash is second-rate. It's the kind of cookie-cutter sequel that Nintendo said it didn't want to create."

                        Christ in a cartoon.

"Double Dash!! controls a fair bit different than its predecessors. "

That was a sentence in the middle of a paragraph about character selection.

"Track designs, on the whole, are crude and uninteresting"

That doesn't seem in keeping with this forum's thoughts. The Yoshi Track anyone? - Not even mentioned in the review.

"You won't unlock different costumes for riders, skins for karts are non-existent"

Skins for carts? WTF are these jokers on?

Cameras ready? Grammar check - OFF

"In terms of technology, it seems that Nintendo shared some of the lessons learned with the Super Mario Sunshine team. Double Dash!! is one of the most vivid, coloring-book bright titles we've seen on GameCube yet. You won't find any other title in the world that looks like it. It could use to be more detailed, however; from the lower polygon counts to the average texture work, Double Dash!! only gets the job done. It's nothing to go drooling over or to prove to your friends that GameCube can perform technically, but it's also very easy on the eyes. It suffices."

                        Twats.

This sums up the review - it couldn't be further from the truth! Apart from dry dry desert which makes me ft: ft: ft: , every single course is absolutely brilliant - even the oval track manages to be fantastic .

                          Comment

I agree that Dry Dry Desert is completely arse track design, it's easily the worst track in the game.

On the whole, I love the track design. The Yoshi, Peach's Boat and Kong Mountain being my fave. Walugi's Stadium is great fun in multiplayer also.

Mario Kart DD could have been better, sure, but it's far superior to any other cartoon-karting game I've ever played before. Bar games from this series, that is.

i spose its inevitable that some reviewers will find fault with this game. nintendo were never going to please everybody with it, simply because opinion is so divided between smk and mk64. personally i would have been happy if they'd kept the handling and everything else exactly the same as mk64 and just given me 16 new tracks to play with. but there are so many people that harp on about smk being superior that nintendo are forced to listen to both sides and try and make the best of both elements. i think on the whole they've done an excellent job. time trials are just as addictive and frustrating (in a good way!) as the previous two games and multiplayer is still a top laugh, so i don't see that anyone's got anything major to complain about.

One of the most pathetic parts of the IGN review is that they say the game lacks innovation, then one of the examples of extras they would like to see in the game is "Remakes of old MK tracks". WTF?
