^ Charlie: I hope you're doing the proper manly thing and playing co-op without mics. (Unless of course you're doing it splitscreen). It adds to the slapstick to have Atlas and P-Body gesturing all over the place like robo-loons.

Haha. I did play co-op micless at first (and with a random) and there was much gesturing but I think he (or she) had played the chambers before as they spent the whole time pointing to where I had to go and consequently I didn't feel I was getting a feel for the chambers or opportunity to work them out myself, I just felt like a dog obeying orders. So after half an hour of that I gave up and and started playing with a friend which I found much more enjoyable.

Yeah, that's crucial. Playing with someone who knows them would be utterly pointless. I tried playing with a random after finishing the chambers coz I fancied another run and it was hard to stop myself trying to shepherd him/her through it. I bailed after 3 chambers as I felt I was spoiling it for the other player. Would have been hellish frustrating to find the Long Fall Boot on other foot, as it were.

Although I can imagine playing them with someone who has done them a little less frustrating for me... especially I tend to usually be the one guiding the blind in other co-op situations here. You hearing that Boris? Still, I'm sure even if you have played them before, you won't remember all the solutions immediately

As for the bits in the single player

yes, that's what I was getting at, although not voicing it, to see if other people would come up with the same conclusion. Chell is Cave's (and possible Caroline's) daughter and was adopted by someone, possibly the Rat Man, at Aperture. She did one of the potato experiments in the BYDTWD featured in the old labs. Hence the barbs about her being adopted in both games. GLaDOS questions Wheatley's taunting about being adopted towards the end of the game, suggesting yes, either Caroline herself was adopted, or Caroline is Chell's mother. I don't know quite where the fat jokes come from or mean, given Chell isn't. Any thoughts?

I was wondering whilst playing if they were making a point about the Sir gaben fat abuse but Wheatley's retorts didn't appeared to signal that. I'd guess at it just being a learned tactic from listening to Cave.

              Hmmm...all veery eenteresteeng...

I guess the bits when Glados protected Chell from Wheatley's jibes about being an orphan and being fat signalled the temporary resurfacing of Caroline's maternal instincts.

The way I took it is that

Caroline IS Glados, or at least that's how she started out as per Cave's message that if he dies they should put Caroline in the computer and make her the boss. The oracle turret you save from redemption also says something like "her name is Caroline, remember that". Over time she became less and less human until she was down in the old test chambers and started to change back. When she was back in charge, she realised what was happening and promptly deleted the bits of Caroline that had resurfaced.

Also Chell is definitely Caroline's (and probably Cave's) daughter. Take a look at this if you haven't seen it.

                There's this picture too[HIDE][/HIDE]

Also yes, I realise this is a bit sad. Honestly though, when valve have created such a great story/setting it would be rude not to look into it

Ahh, I walked past the Oracle turret on both playthrough's. Glados could be solely Caroline, I'll have to check to see if there was any mention of glados or an AI before caroline dun did die.

I got that oracle turret trophy but I just chucked the thing into the abyss straightaway rather than listening to what it was saying. I wasn't in the mood to pay heed to those murderous devices! Great link to translation of final song there, Mekanor. Quite melancholy and moving...

I did not realise there were some lines that jk Simmons allegedly refused to read

Caroline says "NO mr Johnson, I don't not want this, no mister Johnson." Since Simmons didn't record since he said it sounded too much like a rape scene, his lines were never spoken. Carolines were recorded. That part would have been cave forcing Caroline's subconscious/mind into GLaDOS. Always saw it that GLaDOS is a separate AI to Caroline and was forced to share the same space, since GLaDOS was dominant Caroline hid, at the end im sure she thanks you for showing her were Caroline is, then deletes her.

So which version should I pick? Not having A Stream version really doesn't bother me, but a Dualshock 3 does lol. X360 version then?

Bit disappointed there are no leaderboards for this, not even a local record of the times each chamber was completed in. It's yet another missed opportunity and consequently once both campaigns are beaten there's very little incentive to play it again.

That's what I was moaning about earlier in the thread because of this.

"The first DLC will include new test chambers, leaderboards, a challenge mode for single and multiplayer modes, and more."

Should have been there day 1, pretty much traded it in as soon and it was finished and 1000/1000 G'd for credit to put towards LA Noire.

The DLC will be free though.

Really? A beautiful game like this and you guys complain about a lack of leaderboards? Anyway, they would be fairly pointless really. The game is about finding out how to solve the rooms, if it had leaderboards it would simply list how fast people would be able to rush through them after they figured them out. Not really much to brag about I think.

I dont know, youd be suprised how quickly its possible to do some of the chambers once you know a few tricks, the potential for bragging rights is certainly there.
