Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Review

Been playing this all morning on PS3, only been on mp so initial thoughts only. It seems like Treyarch have traded resolution for detail again meaning it has a similar muddy look to it that BO does but the frames seem more solid here. Being a Treyarch entry it feels less spongy than IW's entries and the maps have more variety to them. Moving objects return, Cargo features a crane relocating containers whilst you battle whilst another map has you jumping out the way of a bullet train. I'm up to lvl 16 (Prestige is 55 this time) and after a few hours play there's no maps I dislike and it feels pretty balanced. Skillstreaks tone the matches right down as you need to really chain kills and support to get the higher tier stuff. All in all, it's made a better first impression on me than the last several COD's have, hopefully a sign it'll be a suitable current gen send off

I like it, the only thing that will take some getting used to is the new perk system, although its fun being able to strip attachments from your weapons to have an extra perk in each slot.

Some real good possibilities. Map wise unfortunately nothing stands out like some did in black ops....but again its early days, and there is no stand out crap ones.

Zombies looks like its had some real effort put in too.

    Declassified on the other hand.......

Only played briefly...first 2 missions of SP...not impressed so far! Looks a bit tired graphically (the aircraft cutscenes look hilariously bad) and its started a little too QTE heavy. Voice acting is its usual standard...'spotted' Merle from Walking Dead and The Candyman guy so far.

Hopefully will pick up as it goes on...

Had one round of MP and the usual problem of everyone but me being a bullet sponge yet me insta dying is still there. Am used to that by now though! Last COD it didnt seem to happen was MW2.

The map was quite good tho (cargo). Am not a massive death match player so am hoping the zombies mode is as good as before.

Also surprised that treyarch have gone back to ****ty p2p matchmaking for the pc version. Surely a backward step of epic proportions.

OK I have played about 2 hours on both PS3 and 360 Multiplayer. It is no contest for me, 360 wins hands down. It runs very smooth, graphics are much clearer and sharper, and despite the odd lag issue, I can play the game and am enjoying it

PS3 was a jerk fest and will be sold tomorrow. Shame, as I prefer the PS3 pad by a mile.

Clearly anyone with a low ping is always going to be screwed on the archiac Lag Compensation set up, but they ain't gonna chanage that now are they.

I ran mw3 the whole time with a ping of between 50 and 65. Thats by no means low, and it was a joke even then. So its wasnt just exclusive to low ping players.

My ping is 10, and so I am screwed

I really don't like the plaza map. Other than that the rest of the maps are decent.

Love the new class system. It seems to really offer up some potential load outs for specific maps or modes. Plenty of depth there. I have t tried this league play yet where it works out your skill but that interests me particularly as they mention everything is unlocked for you to use.

Lag didn't seem that bad for me on 360. I've set the matchmaking filter to best connection and got mostly local matches.

Biggest problem online is footsteps again, you just can't hear anyone coming even when there running.. how hard is it to get that right.

Other problems so far is the lack of explaining most of the new loadout system, i have no idea what wildcards to nor to that explain what each one does, the strike system is a complete step backwards... i heard there was some sort of team strikes now but i can't see anything like that so it just a spam of UVA's from both team's so there no where to hide favoring the quick fingered and ping over tactics as ghost is locked to ****ing lvl55 and single rocket doesn't cut it, just that last item alone alienates me from the game.. defence perks are worthless if your only radar all the time.

Bloody hell. This looks pretty ****e in MP. Proper muddy textures and loads of jaggies.

Yep despite them saying they'd squeezed more out of the engine it doesnt look any better than it's predecessors to me. Some maps in MP fare better than others, I think Turbine is quite pretty for instance but some are really basic.

I played this yesterday after playing Halo4 for two hours and it really felt like a major step back graphically.

I think the weapon sounds are much improved but agree footsteps are rubbish. There is an option in the audio section to change mixes, the default is Treyarchs recommended mix but you can select others. Not sure if that improves things or not?

I remember moaning like F*** about this in BO1 and many on here thought I was wrong! in BO1 and MW3 they were total crap. MW1 and MW2 ALL sounds of running, jumping, footsteps were nigh of perfect. I would love to know which knob changed it and give them a foot steps up the backside!!

Right to lessing my moaning a bit, i looked up some wiki's and i'll be able (i think) to unlock Ghost from the start of prestige 1 with a token and wildcards seem make alot more sense now i know what they do.

Tried changing the audio types, all it did was mess up the bass effects which don't cover footsteps.
