A massive amount of game players aren't tech savvy and don't follow or understand the ins and outs of tech like those which a stronger interest level do. My wife will happily play Sonic but tell her to hook up an online set up, establish a solid connection, download a game and play and she'll tell you where to shove it. Its seperating complimentary distribution methods from replacement ones. Netflix is a huge success story with more and more subs being made... yet BluRay sales have increased again this year. Selling online only film distribution is a damn sight easier than with games as its a universal format with price pointing that suits disposable incomes better.
I don't think it's too technical for the average game player to connect their console to the internet and browse and buy games via the online store. iPhone owners (who are often notoriously unsavvy when it comes to tech) don't seem to have any problems with the App Store.
As we get parity between online DD stores and regular retailers and prices begin to compete, I think we'll see more and more people buying games via DD. One of the main reasons why games on PSN etc are their full RRP (?59.99 or whatever ridiculous price) is because console manufacturers don't want to piss off retailers. Ultimately, that will fade into insignificance and retailers will have to adapt to survive - this will obviously be much more difficult for specialists like GAME, but the demise of the specialist videogame store over the past few years has shown that their model doesn't have much longevity any more anyway. Amazon already ate their lunch 5 years ago.
In terms of complementary and replacement stores, I agree that DD stores will remain complementary for a while yet. But I've seen people kick around figures like 'a decade or two' in this thread. It will seriously not be 20 years before games are DD only. Probably more like 5. 10 at most - but I'd be really surprised.
I know this has been rumoured over and over, but the infrastructure actually exists for it to happen now. No resale of games will come first. At the same time, DD stores will have release parity with physical retailers, and their prices will become more competitive - not amazing, not Steam Sale stunning, but competitive. And you'll get bonuses - buy the digital version, get the free DLC costume or whatever. Get a cut price on the Vita version. Earn reward points that can be spent on more digital purchases. The reasons to buy physical will gradually be eroded until most people buy DD. And then they'll stop making physical copies.Last edited by wakka; 11-12-2012, 17:02.

I know its unlikely with first party games likely to force the control method on you, but surely many games will be just as functional without?
May help shift more consoles too.
Probably not, but i'm trying to gague how they will approach the price drop eventually. Then i keep forgetting how low tech the main unit is.

How good it is besides the point.....despite people here generally seeming to love it.

The GamePad has worse button placement. X is going to be the main button for all games. The other three are near impossible to press without moving your hand out of the normal holding position.
FPS's are going to be awesome on either controller, but anything mixing shoulder and face buttons is going to suck the big one. Hopefully HORI bring out something soon.Last edited by J0e Musashi; 11-12-2012, 17:34.Kept you waiting, huh?

I have no problems with the face buttons on the gamepad at all.

Blunty3000 Wii U Hardware review.
Blunty3000 from You Tube Pro controller Review. I think it looks really nice. Wonder if Sony or Microsoft will follow suit with this for PS4 or 720.
I heard he is gonna do the menus next so will prob be a bit negative on those I suspect.Last edited by JU!; 11-12-2012, 17:45.

The problem I have with the face buttons is that they're not coloured. Remember the SNES pad? The buttons were vibrant, and each one looked totally different to the others. They were much easier to remember, and easier to hit the right button immediately when indicated onscreen. As a bonus, it made the controller bold and distinctive. Look at the Wii U (and Wii) controllers. Crap. Style over substance at its worst.
