Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (3DS/WiiU) review

I've only ever used a bow. I have absolutely no experience of any other weapons. I had the Bolt Sender 1 for a while, and I was struggling to take down the Lagi in the HR4 Urgent Village Quest. I switched over the the Heartshot Bow 1, and I took it down in about 20 minutes. I'll feel more comfortable hunting with Kryss and Jimtendo now, although I still think I need a better armour set. I'll wait until G-Rank and then see what I can make which is good for a bow user. I want something that gives me low stamina drain, and fast charge. I believe I need to get a Baleful Gigginox set for both of these skills.

Something that you need to consider is elemental damage. Using a thunder bow on a lagi will do little as it has a very high thunder resistance, which is why you'll see most people using fire weapons. Slime is good for everything though, which is why it's generally considered overpowered.

I didn't realise this at the time. I'm still a bit bewildered by the stats of everything. I shall hunt with you more often I think. I can learn more that way.

So, I should ultimately be aiming for the Great Kelbi Deershot yers?

This Heartshot has no elemental damage, just a poison coating boost. It's been pretty good so far. How can I get a third charge level on it though? It's got Rapid as LV4.

The third level depends on the bow directly.

Everybody seems to go for the Deershot but I don't see a benefit outside of being able to fire slime, which you can always gem in anyway. I guess the attack is pretty good, though the Uragaan bow is stronger.

I want to get into this but only just realised I can't actually play it online. Also Fire Emblem is too good to put down.

Is there a way to fake a local wifi game like you can with a PSP/ PS3 combo?

If you have a Wii U. That's the only way to play online with a 3DS.

They picked terrible ones for the English language 3DS version. The Japanese ones weren't this bad.

Kelbi Bow is decent for offline HR quests, and good online. But with other slime users. Trying to solo with G-rank is ok, and not as overpowered as everyone thinks it is. In a group of 4 Kelbi or slime users, then yeah, stagger city.

I wouldn't worry about getting Kelbi Bow yet, as you need G-rank to able to fully use it, since you need Awaken skill.

The Wroggi bow (when fully upgraded) is probably one of the better normal/ rapid shot bows out there. But bows have been toned down since Portable 3rd, as exploiter has been nerfed, and general bows with decent normal charges are quite scarce. Most have scatter.

Try the Wroggi HR armour as it has normal/ rapid up skill (which gives 10%) more damage with normal shots.

Same goes for blade master HR gear as those were the two sets I used throughout HR until G, then farm Goldbeard Ceadeus for a good early G-Rank armour.

My Ingot armour has Spread Up, that together with my Arka Tri (Y) is perfect for gold rath farming.

I'm waiting until G Rank before I start crafting armour, as as far as I can tell, there aren't any good bow sets in Low / High Rank. Then I'm going for Narga Z. It seems the best armour for bow users by far.

I need to get to HR6 still. I was messing about all weekend in single player doing Village Requests. I've only got two left now. What happens when you clear all of them?

You'll need something interim otherwise you'll ALWAYS get killed with G rank nargas.

I die a lot anyway. Bow is weak from what I can gather. What do you suggest? I've got a Gigginox full set currently, but it's quite useless for bow as I don't even need HR Earplugs being a ranged player. I want something with Focus / Marathon Runner / Negate Hunger I reckon. Ludroth Z seems ideal. It has both Marathon Runner and Negate Hunger, plus seven slots. I should be able to gem in Focus or Load Up. It negates poison too, so I can ditch Antidotes.

I've just got unlocked Kayamba in the ***** Village Quests. I'm going back to online now though to get powered up. I'm on a half day today, so I'll be on from approx 1pm-1am UK time if you want to do some hunting.

Question time!

I understand that you can switch saves from the Wii U to the 3DS and vice-versa, but does anyone know if you can do this from a PAL Wii U game to an NTSC-U 3DS game?

I know you can play online multi with your 3DS if you have a Wii U, but can you play local multiplayer with one person on a Wii U and others on a 3DS?

Is the multiplayer on the 3DS compatible between PAL and NTSC-U systems?
