You're on a roll then as Halo and Tomb Raider are both great as well.

Tomb Raider Awesome game. Just turn the volume down, as Lara sounds like she's climaxing everytime she gets hurt...

      ...she gets hurt alot

I haven't read played any of the game so don't give me spoilers, but would it be possible to play without trawling through all the trash, fine tooth-combing everything? That is, just strolling through the story taking in the scenery? On hard?

I don't understand why the trashcan thing bothers so many people. You kill people and loot their corpses.

I think Borderlands is 10 times worse when it comes to this, yet no one complains about it.

You would probably get by, but you need cash for upgrades etc.

I think shooting a guy dead and looting his corpse is one, arguably logical, thing. Entering a room however, and knowing that practically any and every surface, crevice, cranny and orifice is stuffed full of food and/or currency is quite another.

              Sorry, Brucie moment.

Played first hour and a half and the imagination, colour and detail in script, world design and characterization is just superb. It's blown me away.

The Barbershop Quartet singing the Beach Boys was the best thing ever!

Right now I can't think of a gameworld that is more convincingly realized than this one. I'm also enjoying my first taste of the combat. Guns feel really solid and weighty and vigors are ace.

Woop, still enjoying this, although I think some of the comments here about the conventionality of the game design are right. After all the imagination that has been poured into the story, characterization and world-building, it feels like a bit of waste and quite jarring to just run around shooting the place up and rifling through every bin and drawer in sight. There must be a more elegant solution to the problem of resource gathering. Why not just start the guy off with plenty of currency so you don't have the utterly bizarre situation of having to hoover up money that's been left lying around all over the place? Also odd is the way key characters leave their intimate thoughts and biographies in plain sight for anyone to pick up and listen to. I really think that, unless there's some thought given to underlying systems, this kind of game has hit the limits of what it can do. The 'gameness' of the game and the strong narrative ambitions/drive just don't mesh, in my view. Still, it's a terrific roller-coaster ride. Back to adventure.

Nearly finished now, and I'm amazed at how much Booker De Witt can eat! Hasn't stopped since the moment he set foot in Columbia: from shops, park benches, bins, whether apples, chocolates, fresh or rotten, you name it...he eats it. Soundtrack to the game is a weird combination of ragtime, gunfire and munching. Does the ending plot reveal involve a deep moral message about the dangers of bulimia or something?

Finished. Depending what dimension I'm in, that ending is either genius or the biggest hmmmkay in gaming history.

^ A tear-ible misrepresentation of my view, is that.

I personally loved the ending Really made me think about it for days after completion. Don't forget to watch after the credits

I just thought...hmm you've had me running about clockwork toy town for the last few hours collecting cassettes the size of a suitcase and being a tramp and now you do something interesting for the last twenty minutes. Poor show chaps. Try something new next time.

i haven't finished the game yet and can't comment on the infamous ending. but so far (6 hours in) the game seems heavily overrated to me. combat sticks with the same old formula of the predecessors, but the upgrade mechanics are flawed and the storytelling doesn't grab me as much as the original Bioshock did. most of all Elizabeth as an AI companion is a bit disappointing. except from providing ammo and tips for supplies her AI never did anything surprising. Half-Life 2's Alex already did most of what Elizabeth does many years ago. maybe even better.
