    Bioshock Infinite review

Got this early from Simplygames (shall be using them again!) and wanted to give some first impressions.

So far, so Bioshock. It seems like the game is pretty similar to previous instalments, but I'm not far enough in to make a judgement. It continues to tell a story exceptionally well, with the story being drip fed as you go, with conversations to listen to and details to pick up on for the eagle eyed.

The tale it tells continues to be done exceptionally well, with an opening that echoes Bioshock 1, with a few twists. The world so far seems to be densely populated and where Bioshock felt like a world in ruin, this one feels like its still at its peak. So far, so good! It's rare that you can play a game and almost instantly know you're in for a total treat, but this is one of those times.

The only bad point I've noticed so far is some decidedly low res textures in some places which can be jarring, and the frame rate dropped a bit during the opening, but noticed no tearing as of yet on the 360 version.

On very early impressions, this looks like this may live up to the hype! More impressions to come as I've spent some more time with it.

Want to play it so bad, good to hear that it's looking good so far & that there's no tearing.

Wish mine would turn up today.

Just spent the opening hour of the game wandering around Columbia in a carnival which is a really clever way of introducing you to it's world, and the games mechanics is different fairground rides- very clever way of mixing tutorials in with the gameworld. The world is a beautiful sight so far- although the animation can be a bit shonky at times .

It's all kicked off now, and one thing that impresses me are the buildings themselves, they all can apart and move independently, so in a fight you find buildings and structures coming away and flying off to stop you going further! Scripted, but impressive nonetheless!

        Back to it I go!

I've played around an hour of this too. Intro is quite good, but has nothing on the original Bioshock IMO. Just doesn't have as good an atmosphere. Saying that though it's still one of the best intros to a game I've played probably. For some reason it's the art direction that is impressing me so far, the Vigor bottles look amazing.

The more I play this game, the better it gets.

The story is brilliant, and the characterisation and voice acting is spot on. Some major surprises and excellent set pieces along with lots of downtime to explore. Having another character around who is equally excited about seeing the world is a brilliant idea.

I'm enjoying this more than Bioshock.

It gets a lot better once you meet Elizabeth IMO. The way she points out things in the world is genius, I would have missed a lockpick set in one area had she not pointed to it and told me it was there.

Best supporting character in a game ever?

It's like the total opposite to Bioshock's dark oppressing feel. Everything's bright and feels wide open.

An FPS with a colourful world? A mistake surely?

                      Can't wait for this!!

The art direction in this is truly stunning. Everywhere feels so vibrant, and the lighting is stunning. It's so bright and colourful even in dark places only lit by candles- it's beautiful.

I think I'm about halfway now, although only 3 out of five secret achievements so if they're story related I'm less than that- and I've been playing a while. They're still introducing game mechanics so this could be quite long actually. I'm having to force myself to stop playing it- I don't want to rush through it.

You're all in for a real treat.
