Only played the beginning of the first one and never touched the second once.
Just ordered this due to the unanimous praise I'm hearing. Can't beat ?30 for a new game that's that high rated. Much like with Tomb Raider. Is the story heavily connected to the first two? Don't want to miss out on anything.

Is this like the original in that you have to press a button to pick up ammo?

I finished the original, but did not enjoy the constant button pressing for the ammo, and pressing buttons to open things and then another button press to pick up stuff that you don't really need. It ended up being more of a collect-em-up than a FPS!

You pick up ammo from fallen guns automatically, but still have to loot stuff just like the old game.

imo the first Bioshock was immensely overrated as indeed was the recent Tomb Raider. I'm looking forward to this though (when it unlocks on Steam...) but I wont hold my breath.

No, its a bit more open world though isnt it. Bioshock was quite tightly scripted and had a sense of urgency about it, faffing with items you'll never use AND the need to keep pressing buttons to pick up ammo was jarring!
