Sorry fishyb, not sure what the problem might be there. Hopefully someone else can help.
Regarding that Crota's End solo, it's very impressive, but reading through that Bungie forum thread reveals that he had actually levelled his character up to level 32. He did this by deleting one of his 3 chars, having completed the raid 3 times last week and 4 times this week, so that he could spend two weeks of 4 characters worth of radiant shards maxing his hunter.
Having been through this new raid a few times now, with three successful completions, it's starting to grow on me. I wasn't overly impressed at first, compared to the superb VOG, but it's revealing itself to be just as deep as VOG with a myriad of possible tactics to get through it (not including cheese-methods). The new loot system for this raid is great too, you're pretty much guaranteed at least one piece of armour and one weapon in a single run-through, plus it's possible to get all armour pieces in normal mode. Potentially, you could get a full armour set in one or two completions because it's less likely to give you duplicates. Hopefully Bungie will apply this new system to VOG.

Ill work it out, its probably something stupid im doing or not enabling somewhere, was only ?5 so will make the raid easier than me nodding like a retard and you guys wondering if i understood or if im just doing my own thing.
Re the solo raid, well credit to him to be honest. He's not glitched the level like some people and found silly places to get to or got inside scenery that he wasn't supposed too, he's just using the powers and abilities in a very interesting way, id certainly never of thought to do that with my hunter. No doubt the whole stealth side of the hunters abilities will be nerfed now. Also, he made an entertaining vid as well.
Personally i prefer the whole social aspect to Destiny, with really comes into its own on the raids, ive only done a couple but teamwork is absolutely essential on them and real fun when it all comes together, but each to their own.Last edited by fishbowlhead; 19-12-2014, 14:35.

tbh the Solo didn't look impossibly hard. Especially on level 32 I think a lot of players are going to pull this off seeing how this Raid is constructed. It confirms my suspicions about this Raid, its pretty bad. I already solo'd the first part earlier this week with my Hunter (Fleet footed+Shadow jack + stalker + Blink strike). Used Monte Carlo for constant Blink Strikes if needed. You can sit on the rock near the lamp and the adds can't even hit you. Rocket the Ogres and you're home free. Didn't even think about extra Patience and Time stealth, but ofcourse that would work. You just have to count to 10, as thats how long stealth stays (with shadow jack) and then rotate between stalker, patience and time and or blink strike. And Super is a good fail safe. I think stealth time even stacks, so stalker during a blink strike stealth thats still on gets you 10 secs on top of it.
The boss looked sort of easy as well. You can stay at the back after all, safely (and I mean safely, inside is completely safe) picking off everyone including sword bearer and Ogres. As for Crota, dropping the sword to fire 2 horns and picking it up again isn't hard I figure. I do something like it, I drop my sword after a combo or 2, blink strike and pick it up again. That way you have maximum DPS time because I dance at his feet in invisible mode while the team takes him down. The solo trick is sort of the same in execution. If you're level 32 you can beat him after only 12 slashes or so. Crota fight is a poor team objective anyway, for Atheon a team needed to know what to do in the portal and the others needed to know what they did outside. Nothing like this in Crota fight except for DPS when Sword closes in on Crota.
VoG looked much harder with 2 people, which says a lot about VoG. They needed to shoot blind and near wipe in portals because of shield drops. Or having to deal with all oracles at the Templar. But back then the damage was scaled so that lesser players meant much easier enemies so I wonder if they would even pull the same feat off nowadays. In the days a Nightfall was easier to solo (which I did a lot and was easier to beat than with a fireteam).Last edited by Panta Rhei; 19-12-2014, 21:04.

Given your many criticisms of Bungie's raid design efforts, I'd be fascinated to know what other games give a better social multi-player experience with the same depth of combat that, IMO, only Bungie know how to do. Having played games since the early 80s, I regard Bungie's raids (warts and all) to be some of the most inspired game design I've ever played.

Then you do the raids and the different characters and their and abilities come into play, the hunter and it's golden gun or stealth, the Titan and it's shield or the warlock and it's second chance auto revive. All play a part.
It might not be on a spreadsheet scale of wow and it's magic, but at least it's fun to actually play.Last edited by fishbowlhead; 20-12-2014, 11:06.

Nothing really new here and World of Warcraft has been doing it for a decade now with all its raids and 10,000 of quests. Destiny's fun but it's far from a well designed games, gunplay is great and I'm in it to collect all the gear. RPG's elements are rubbish as is the lack of variety in missions.Last edited by S3M; 20-12-2014, 11:20.

But I don't play it for its brilliant level layout or encounter design or whatever. Destiny's encounter design is an insult to Bungies earlier work. The strikes are awful layouts with awful bullet sponge bosses. The Raids are nothing special either, yes they're better than the story missions and strikes which make them stand out here but level design and mechanic wise its not that special.
Especially CE is just very mediocre imo. Whats so good about the Singers encounter? I thought it was terrible. Or about the final boss one has to solo anyway? Its no patch on Atheon requiring 2 teams of 3 working together. What CE does better is its RNG. So far I only had 1 duplicate item from CE, at the same day I got back to back Mythoclasts and helms from VoG which was ridiculous.Last edited by Panta Rhei; 20-12-2014, 11:50.

Well seems my luck is changing round in this. Been getting a lot more legendary engrams, plus ended up with a few new exotics like hard light as a nice surprise in the cruicible.
Though I'm always hurting for exotic shards, plenty of energy through.Last edited by fishbowlhead; 21-12-2014, 09:57.

I'm having the opposite luck at the moment!
I'm levelling up a 2nd character, she's level 27, but I need gauntlets and leg armour to progress further but just can't find any.
I've not got crucible or vanguard rank high enough to buy them yet. I've not picked up anything from the crucible in ages.
Desperately low on glimmer too because of the 2 characters, 25000 glimmer cap is killing me ha ha

I call it the "all hope is lost" algorithm.
In the last week I've acquired,
Thorn exotic.
Patience and time exotic.
The chance legendary.
Ats/8 arachnid exotic.
Super good advice exotic.
Hard light exotic.
Plus 2 more exotic bounties to do one for bad juju and another super good advice which I'll break down.
So it's been a bit of a bonanza week for me. But it's like a tide, you get loads of cool stuff then grind for 20 hours straight. Plus legendary armour specific to Titans and warlocks and a few exotic helmets for the other clases. Seeing as bungie have confirmed trading won't happen, I'll break the warlock exotics down and keep the Titan stuff incase I decide to do another character.Last edited by fishbowlhead; 21-12-2014, 11:24.
