I've been contemplating getting back into Destiny now that I'm done with Dark Souls II. I gave up at level 31 shortly after TDB came out. What has changed since then? Will I need to invest a lot of time to catch back up? It's either going to be Destiny or I'm going to get heavily involved with Payday 2.

Destiny has always been a massive time sink, and the more content that gets released for it only makes that point more true. New DLC means that there's a bunch of new exotics, which makes running the two raids every week relevant again.
I think people are underestimating PoE. Week 3 confirms to me that it's actually had quite a bit of thought put into its design. It's all about lvl35. As per last week, there's a bunch of neat tactics you can employ/discover that can make progress a lot easier, and I'm not talking about "cheesing". Once you discover them, I'm finding it to be very rewarding. Having the right weapons is important too. People who rolled a void Supremacy from the very first Queens wrath will definitely have an easier time with Skolas this week. And round 4 sees an ascended Found Verdict coming into its own.

ToO and HoW in general actually revealed the weakness of this game's PvP balance.
Load up Iron Banner and try to play without Thorn and shotgun. Its nearly impossible now. Bungie nerfed so many things, that all that there's left is abusing Thorn and shot package. The rest still works, but is just weaker and harder to dominate with. Really, the game was much more fun when Suros,Vex, Shadow price, fusion rifles etc all worked out too good. I'm using Thorn too, not because I like it, but I get consistently beaten by Thorn users if I try something else. I also created a Shotgun with sick range and shot package and can now pay them back. But its very lame.
Also, this IB reveals how bad a lot of the maps and control in general is. I don't know if its coincidence, but I've reached Rank 5 and 70% of the maps I played were Asylum, Anomaly and Burning Shrine. Those are NOT suited for 6 v 6 control. Actually not a single map is suited for control. They are asymetrical. Blind Watch C spawn = win for you unless your team is completely clueless. Shores of Time B and C = win for you too. Clash is okay though, I don't even hate Pantheon when playing Clash. IB should be Clash.
I start to feel HoW is terrible. PoE rewards are bad, sells all STR builds and Shank and Dreg disruptor really? ToO have the best rewards but is already starting to be a mess and its locking out a lot of players. The overall tweaking and balance is very bad as ToO pretty much points out. Rerolling is nice, but 1 roll is the best one (for shotgun its shot package, rifled barrel). The rest of the perks are worthless though some really sound like fun. They also added Hidden Hand perk to Snipers and its wrecking ToO right now.Last edited by Panta Rhei; 06-06-2015, 17:40.

I actually like the crucible when it's not stat based, let skill and cunning win the match, not a whole team of 34's with mythoclasts and thorns.
Though I'm going to have to do ToO if I want that solar hand cannon :/
Edit. Just gave trials of ToO a good go tonight. Good god it was like being kicked in the teath, I'm 33 so have a level disadvantage straight away, and every match was every player with sun singer and auto revive which makes it impossible. ToO can get F*****.Last edited by fishbowlhead; 06-06-2015, 23:39.

As I mentioned above, the ToO & PoE gear drop with random elemental burn. This way you can get a solar hand canon from both, which is what I'm really after. The only thing I collect in this game is raid gear and exotics. Generally not interested in any of the PvP stuff, nor any of the faction stuff, except all the Dead Orbit shaders (which I have) and the Dead Orbit ship. I'm almost up to level 90 with Dead Orbit across 3 characters, and the ship still hasn't dropped for me yet. I didn't even start levelling Dead Orbit until after the Dark Below expansion, which is when the faction ships were first introduced. I've never come across anyone in a fireteam who has it either. The faction ships are likely the rarest items in the game.

Also, I think Bungie must have upped the drop rate for elemental primaries from Skolas with the latest patch, as I now have 3 out of the 4. I've started doing the raids again as I want better rolls on the raid armour. Never really paid much attention to armour stats before, but now that it's really easy to get to lvl34, time can be spent perfecting your setup. High intellect and discipline looks like the best way forward.
