This game is such a time waster

I keep getting dragged into side missions.....I'm playing a melee dude, murdering space pirates with an axe is fun!

I'm going to have to discipline my crew

I don't think this game is for you if you think this is the case - the game is open after the first hour and the structure doesn't change at 12/15 hours, it's entirely down to what you decide to do. Go join the Crimson Fleet, that's had the best faction missions so far.

I've taken up a job collecting debts for the bank, hoping I can pay off the mortgage on my "dream home"

I might play it in conjunction with something else too, given it will genuinely be bare minimum 2040 before we get close to Starfield 2 it's worth dragging out
There is a sort of VATS targeting system for space ship battles... but the normal gunplay doesn't have it and I think it's actually improved enough that it doesn't need it at all.

I'm not sure the combat is particularly sophisticated - all the AI does is hide behind cover and occasionally pops its head out from it allowing you to shoot it. Very occasionally they'll run at you if they have melee weapons, rather than guns.

I wouldn't have minded a VATS like system in the game tbh, with absolutely no aim assists in this game, even when using a gamepad, you might not have such a great time in combat without turning down the difficulty.

encountered my first game stopping bug, doing my first ranger mission to take out some outlaw, get deep in to compound working my way up using the low grav to boost everywhere. Start fighting on top a spaceship... fall through the ceiling of the cockpit with no way to escape, enemies firing at me from outside

Had to reload back to where i entered the compound, not much of a loss.

                Bethesda strikes again

I came across this quest completely by accident and ended up with a sick

set of armour and kick arse spaceship

So unexpected but so awesome. That's what I love about these games.

I'm trying to romance Sarah, see how I get on Still on the second quest about 20 hours in.

I'm also desperately hoping there is a katana somewhere in the universe. That would be rad.

In the 44 hours I've plays (as well as having done that mission you mentioned above), I've only found this ...

I'm not sure how the corrosive combat knife is supposed to work mind

I am now on a quest line where I am a spy doing industrial espionage for a mega-corporation. I think I completed the Crimson Fleet missions, the final battle was pretty epic - the achievement tracking has stopped for me though as I used the command line early in the game for extra digipcks and it looks to have turned them off because of that (to be fair, it did warn me that might happen).

I have mostly poured talent points into stealth, pickpocketing and security. I'm a right little thief. I keep misreading 'Digipick' as 'dickpic'.

Anyone else getting a bug where if you zoom-in with scoped weapons, you get a view of opposite direction behind you? It's pretty nasty when in battle. Happens quite a bit for me too.

No, can't say I've seen that - but I only have a couple of scoped weapons. What's the weapon spec? (There are several different scope types and they're different on different weapons).

In fact, I've had very very few issues at all with the game, other than silly things like dialogue starting with weird camera angles, and this ...

Gotta say I'm really liking the whole digipick puzzle mechanic... probably the best lock picking I've seen.

Bit Surprised to get a repeated outpost on my 4th visit to one... shortly after my outlaw fight i looked at the the rest of the planet had and went to the only other flagged outpost which is an abandoned lab. In there i spacers going over cyro lab accident, cleared it out, found the couple of secrets it was hiding and moved out. Then after following a main mission lead, i had a call from planetary miner, go kill these spacers in a lab, where i got the exact same set up, same dead scientist names, same secrets with the only difference being the loadouts for the spacers killed (the spawn layout was all the same). Very disappointing and deeply unluckily to to have seen this already.

Aside from that the spacer boss from the previous lab outpost dropped a silenced, scoped, 30mag auto rifle with 37dmg using 7.77m... so lots of ammo and in a space a of few hours i have level 4 sneak and have broken the games combat , they can't see me when i've already hit them with bullets and will just aim at my companion while i keep the sneak attack bonus. This is the kind of nonsense is why i play Bethesda games.

In other niggles, i'm not happy i can't in tradition of every game before it, strip the dead to there undies.

And to just play the story, there's zero need to build anything and so no need to hoard anything.

Given the Xbox version supports mods, someone will be along with an infinite inventory mod in days (and as I mentioned above, it's already not an issue in any way at all on PC, you can just console infinite inventory in a matter of seconds).
After taking your advice last week, I've deffo had more of a great time with the game. Loving it. Landing on a planet for my next mission... scanning... "oooh what's that over there?".... finding some kind of abandoned base... 2 hours later I'm down the rabbit hole of some side mission in the bowels of a base.

The bugs still plague me, sadly. My new one is to do with a set of enemy ships who do not spawn when I get to the mission destination.
