very true. My local have got BOGOF at the mo so I picked up 6 PS2 games for under ?20 and no fifa's in there.

Generally second hand buying is all about shopping around really.

The funniest GAME one I've seen on the weekend was:

    Disgaea pre-owned ?32.97 (cheeky as it's ?30 online new)
    Disgaea new ?29.98

    they were 4 foot apart.

Most media when pre owned is a rip off, go see the for sale threads on here for examples........

DVD sales are even worse, the amount of Warner type releases (the ones for ?6-?7) being sold at ?5 plus 60p postage.

As with all things 2nd hand, they are only worth what I'm prepared to pay, which probably explains why I rarely buy 2nd hand.

Remind me not to shop at game again then!

O.k. they check the condition but if i buy something thats new i'd expect to be the first person to own it.

Does anyone else notice the mad pricing on second hand games in trading folders such as our own?
IE, Winning Eleven 8 etc being sold for ?35 second hand, when its less than that new??

If you're shopping at Game, you're risking that even with the extra ?2 spent, as God only knows what the last person to buy it 'new' did with it. I've utterly given up on them for new releases, and only rarely bother with them for second-hand stuff.

You never have to buy them though...

Plus it's cheaper to pay ?35 and get a mint (maybe sealed) copy than pay ?32 from play-asia (number of the top of my head there...) and pay ?5 postage, and maybe customs. Also, you get it in a day or two, not 4.

Plus, I'd trust pretty much any random member of these forums to look after a disc more than I would your average GAME employee, and certainly the average person who bought the title a couple of days ago and returned it.

                  I second Gamestation (despite them now being owned by Blockies);

I've picked up PS2 games in there for ?2-3 (Virtua Fighter 4: Evo for ?6 etc).
Xbox games (of varying calibre) ?3+
Decent Dreamcast titles (Capcom Vs SNK) ?1.99...

Plus my local gives me free stuff (demo discs, old promo versions of games they've received traded-in from customers and can't sell - got Um Jamma Lammy this way )

Blockbusters' instore prices for 2nd-hand stuff can also be "okay". Not that I ever wish to step foot inside one again (I worked there for a bit: Dante has no true conception of purgatory as he never worked a Friday-night shift at Blockies...)

Exactly -- there's nothing stopping you from checking the disc out, having a flick through the manual and stuff. I did this with Harvest Moon recently; it was sub-?30 while the new one was ?37.99. Perfect condition, it was, so I bought it. I guess some townie bought for his missus and didn't like it ^^

Gamestation are great, aren't they? Granted, the prices vary a bit and their new prices aren't so great anymore but they do like to rotate their stock often and will give away anything, if asked. They will haggle over retro prices as a lot of stock is "unmarked" (i.e. the barcode ain't on the system) and will often give discounts on large-quantity purchases \o/

unfortunately, yes i have noticed that, but only fairly recently.
quite a few people seem to be charging 2-3 quid more than you can get the game new from playasia

My local Gamestation are selling a ZX Spectrum 48K in typical condition for ?99. That's ridiculous.

Whoa, where is that dude? Did you tell them it was a ridiculous price? The one by me has one for ?14.99 (although, it is a placky keyboard jobbie).

Glasgow. It's right next to some ****ty LCD handheld for the same price.

However, the shop just up the road a bit (G-Force) is selling a set of those original FFVII action figures for... ?199!!! I have a set in a box at home. If I thought for a second that was a likely going price I'd be selling them quick sharp.
