Perhaps you should consider a new vocation in life, how about PR .

The thing is we (and this threads author) work in a high street game store whose main demographic is middle aged women buying games for their kids. We're not there to lecture people on the qualities of Yoshi's Island, if you're asked a question then answer it but getting worked up over a store procedure (returning a game you don't like) and some random stranger then I'd suggest your in the wrong job.
Maybe people have the opinion that Gamestation is some small indie shop for the hardcore, well that isn't the case. The way they market themselves means they're fast turning into GAME, which from the view of making money alone, is a good thing for the company owners.
And as I said, your core customer is basically very limited in knowledge, why get worked up over answering simple questions?
Sulking for !4 hours! should have got you the sack.

You're there to make the store money by being polite, helpful and fast, not because you have a great gaming knowledge. Important to remember that TBH.

BTW, the way I fight back and show my elitism is by ALWAYS pimping Nintendo when possible, taking my Torchic SP in yesterday with the new Made In Wario certainly turned a few heads. It's a case of yes sir, you'd like a SP? Well look at this for a feel of the games...
And think, come Oct 29th the amount of fun you're going to have turning the Chavs away because they aren't 18.
Plus my DS will be in GAME in a month. I'll change the world.

Still, I'm off to the battleground myself in 20 minutes, time to sell some stuff and make my boss some money

It's possible when they come out with such bull**** as "games turn you into zombies".

That said, maybe it's more a grossly incorrect fact than an opinion.

Hahahaha kids these days, but hey i havent laughed so much in ages. You work in a shop ffs! If you worked in iceland would you get worked up if someone said oven chips are bad for you or maybe prefered birdseye fish fingers over iceland? Looks like you guys (most of you) have gone to work with all your gaming geek bagage with you. You enjoy games - great but leave it at the door, no one wants to be served by people like that.

I used to work with Gamestation's MD, Michael Logue, when he was at Phones4u. The experience of working there drove the poor fellow crazy, and he quit about a week before I did.

I think the problem is the fact that people at this forum are mainly really into games in a big way, and when they have to deal with people that have stupid opinions on games, it really irritates.

I have never worried about casual gamers. I make sure I hang-around with passionate gamers that thrive on the buzz of all types of videogames. I would never go in Game and have a conversation about gaming, because its just plainly pointless.

The main problem seems to be the death of the HARDCORE. There was once a time when nearly everyone into games was a bit of a geek, but now these people have grown-up and lots of them have become more casual.

I guess us hardcore geeks are in dwindling numbers, so lets stick-together and keep on discussing the golden age of gaming until our hair turns grey and the care home come round and take-us and our 16bit collections away.

Okay, imagine that you have some huge incredible stake in oven chips, you know, you really like them, you're really passionate about them, you hate it when people diss them without knowing about them - it's the same goddamn thing as here. To me oven chips are oven chips, they're food, that's it; but food is not a specialist subject. Food is food. You eat food to live.

And I bet your ass the MD of Birds Eye would argue to his last breath of why their fish fingers are better than Icelands. He'd get worked up at the very suggestion of Iceland's being better. Absolutely no different to what's happened here.

One would also argue that Kaladron works in a games shop BECAUSE he loves games. This isn't just any old checkout job to him; he's got a retro section to take care of, he advises people on what to buy - BECAUSE HE KNOWS GAMES. THAT'S HIS ****ING JOB. What's he going to do, leave his knowledge at the door and tell everyone to buy 'Mary-Kate and Ashley IV: The Final Fantasy'?

Kaladron may have handled the situation badly but games are going to continue to get the blame for things such as copycat murders and rampant obesity if mangled and badly if such ignorance continues to be spread amongst the uninformed.

Can't wait to see the next BAN THESE EVIL GAMES headline by Daily Mail.

Aha, but to some people that is not the case, to some food is a fanatisism, a matter of life and death, eating at the best restaurants, cooking, discovering new food - you get the idea.

"And I bet your ass the MD of Birds Eye would argue to his last breath of why their fish fingers are better than Icelands. He'd get worked up at the very suggestion of Iceland's being better. Absolutely no different to what's happened here."

Completely different: Kaldron is not the Chief Exec of gamestation (or wherever), his job - and duty to his managers is to sell games, to make profit for gamestation. His managers don't care which games he sells, so long as he sells them. Now in your example he would run - lets say - EA, he would then argue (can't wait for the reponses to this one!) that his games are better that other publishers. He could say for example "fifa 2005 is better than pes4" and why could he say this? because that is his job. The guy in the shop simply takes the cash. If someone says to him should I buy fifa or pes he can advise them, use his expertise but that is the limit.

"One would also argue that Kaladron works in a games shop BECAUSE he loves games. no but if someone walks up to buy that game, he should take there cash, feel smug if he wants to that he knows better but nothing else. I would sugest if he loves games that much to try a different job, set up a specialist shop himself, get a job at a publisher but work in a games shop - there are so few people like him, you, us that is realisty and no one can influence people that much.

"Kaladron may have handled the situation badly but games are going to continue to get the blame for things such as copycat murders and rampant obesity if mangled and badly if such ignorance continues to be spread amongst the uninformed.

                          c'est le vie.

sorry for the lame diy quotes.

Have to say I wouldn't like it if a sales clerk was passing judgement on me based upon the products I was buying.

All they need do is take my money and bag my items.

It's a waste of time trying to 'educate' the mainstream. They simply have different interests to the enthusiasts, and the situation is getting worse, not better. Within 5 we could all be buying EA cookie cutter stuff, simply because there is nothing else left to buy.

I did a stint at Gamestation last Xmas, it was fun.

I'm now at GAME and i've worked 2 half days so far.

                                There are differences.

For example, more people (as my manager keeps telling me) shop at GAME, GAME > Gamestation and GAME > Everyone else. With this, i've had a few weird converstaions already.

There's a mad perception of the two companies by their employees. Gamestation staff belived GAMEs staff didn't play games, knew nowt about them and just werent into them. The same myth is being preached to me by the GAME staff o_0
I'm also suprised at how many more mutants seem to be employed here compared to Gamestation up the road. I'm probably being unfair, i don't know, but my assistant manager would walk round the shop and everytime he came near me he'd stop and then point and laugh, suddenly stop and then walk back off. Why? I'd been asked to A-Z the preowned section, hardly thrilling i know, but this guy, he really, REALLY thought it hilarious. Freak'.

An elderly man in his 60's comes in
Old person: "Do you sell second hand PC games?''
Me: ''No, sorry, but Gamestation up the road do, you may want to try there.''
Old person: ''Oh no, i always do my shopping here.''
Confused slightly i left it at that.

A little firl of 8 came up to me with a GTA:SA box.
                                Girl: ''When's this out?''
                                Me: ''October 29th''
She looked confused and disappeard. Then her dad appears.
Girls Idiot father: ''How long till she has to wait for this''
Me: ''about 10 years'' Dads thrown. ''It's an eighteen certificate game, you see'' Dad's puzzled ''Friday, the 29th its out''
Dad: ''Cheers'' And he leaves giving me this sort of nod, which i think means he thought me simple in the head for thinking his kid might not be able to play GTA:SA.

I'm sure i'm going to have more adventures from pissed Xmas shoppers, wound up with cold weather and long queues EVERYWHERE.
