I remember enjoying Krazy Ivan on the PS1. It was launched pretty early in its life and got some mediocre scores but I really enjoyed the way the game played and the cheesy FMV with the dodgy Russian accents.

Also, another vote for San Francisco Rush on the DC it's probably the best multiplayer game the console has, seriously!

Agreed on Mario Kart. There is a huge section of the gaming community who automatically slate any new MK game simply for not being the SNES version. The only reason Advance got any decent reviews is because is basically is the SNES version.

As well as being a masterfull party game, MK-DD is hugely deep if you're trying to master the DD stuff. And if you think it's random, you're **** at it.

Agreed. Really never understood the accusations of cheapness towards DD. I have trouble believing that so many reviewers can be so bad at a game they're reviewing, but it's the only conclusion I can come to.....

I'm no genius, and I'm **** at the original MK, but I'd never accuse DD of being unfair.....cos it's not.

To be fair, you can occasionally be put in a position where you come second or third in an individual race through no fault of your own, particularly if you get blue-shelled on a final lap. But over a few races the luck will always balance out. Overall I would say it's weighted 70%-30%ish towards skill.

It's just not possible for the super-hardcore to effortlessly destroy beginners like the original. I suspect this might be what journos didn't like!

Mario Kart Double Dash sucks ass. I *know* I'm great at it, but I've got a bet on with a girl at uni. She says she can beat me, and if she wins, I have to get naked. If I win, baps ooot.

Had a practice with her yesterday and she destroyed me. Managed to get miles ahead by lap 3, then she'd get blue shell, star, lightning, and then overtake me at the end. EVERY TIME. That just ain't fun. :\

Well, it's fun for her isn't it?

The trick is not to get annoyed when bad things happen. I've seen it time and again: a reasonably competent gamer plays MK-DD against a relative beginner. Something happens to their kart which they couldn't avoid and they spend the rest of the race moaning about it and not concentrating. Hence they loose. They *know* they should win, so it's the game's fault, right?

If you want to avoid being naked I would suggest playing the All Cup Tour and concentrating very hard.

Told her if I win I'll still get my cock out in celebration.

Cheers for the help Seibu. We were playing 3 player, and the other player was awful. He kept spamming blue shells, which is why I reckon I lost. Hoping in 2 player there won't be as many blue shells...

Well, I'm hardly any good at DD actually! BTW when you hear a blue shell coming for you and you're in first, it always pays to brake and drop into second. Let somebody else take the shell! You have to hang back quite a lot since blue shells have a huge blast radius, end even hitting the edge of the explosion will make you spin.

Aye but I'm usually so far ahead so braking isn't an option, and by then the bizzatch has a star to save for the last part.

I also reckon the reason people don't like Double Dash is because you can lose weapons. If you're in first place there's no way you can save up a red shell as an insurance policy in case someone overtakes you. Makes it a bit fairer...kinda. Not when I'm trying to see norks though.

Surely if you're that far ahead the blue shell isn't going to make that much of a difference anyway....

I'm not bad at DD, but my housemate Stoo is much better and he regularly destroys me.....all the blue shells in the world can't save me half the time...

                            Yay! I rule!

                            ahem.

To me, Mariokart DD does seem to be based more on skill than luck. either that, or Ben-K is *really* bad at it.

The only other game that i really like that I've heard a lot of people complaining about is Mario Sunshine. Maybe it's something to do with not having played Mario 64 first.

                              devil may cry 2.

I thought the game was fun and stylish still. I don't know what people didn't like about it.

Also XIII. This was stylish. Gameplay was nothing phenomonal, but not terrible either.

There were 2 unheralded action adventure games by Square on PS1 which I really enjoyed too: Brave Fencer Musashi and Threads of Fate. They had charm.

Jak II Too hard you say? Rubbish. At most there are three memorable difficulty spikes but the lack of having to collect everything (like in the prequel) and a bit of difficulty (unlike the sequel) matched with a rock solid game world, brilliant voice acting and a near seemless game world make this one of my favourite games of this generation.
