    A fly in the ointment

Nothing in life is entirely perfect, not even your favourite games. As such even the best games have the occasional lapse, the one stage, level or section that spoils it ever so slightly.

What I'm interested in, then is that fly in the proverbial ointment. List some good games and the parts you felt weren't up to the quality of the rest of the title.

For example, I thought the Shadow Temple was OOT's weakest level. Not only did it look crap (a mish-mash of brown and green), but it was annoying in places.

    Over to you...

The Hong Kong level.... IMO not fun, just annoying

Wet-Dry World on Mario 64. Tedious and characterless.

I'm really enjoying the control and the level design on Yoshi's Island. However, the first bonus level on world 1 has screwed things up, because I keep dying 'unfairly'. The rest of the game has been perfect, so this is something of a let down for me.

Could just be that I suck though?

I have to second the Goldeneye one. Also the tank boss fight in MGS. Maybe I just don't like tanks?

As mentioned in a previous thread, the Library level in Halo. Went from feeling like I was playing one of the greatest and most engrossing FPS titles in years, to back to playing Doom 10 years ago. Not fun.

                Library level in Halo.

I quite enjoyed some of the other levels with the flood, proving (to me) that there was a place for them, but the library was tedium personified.

                    JSR+F: Half pipes

Would've been fine if they had done them differently, but the way they were it was just tedious, especially when you had to jump to something above them...

Wasn't it just? Little imagination appeared to go into either the level or enemy designs.

I've said it before & I'll say it again - the closing stages of Zelda:Wind Waker:

I've spoilered it in case peeps aren't there yet

The Xen sections in Half Life. Brilliant game, spoiled somewhat by these annoying levels near the end.
