Sony consult Microsoft on what it takes to be a market leader? Surely you can see that it would be rather ridiculous.....
I'll agree that the PSP schedule is sparse but I am still playing it more than anything else at the moment....the sleep feature is ust too useful for my commute and working life in general. I really like all the games I have for it - now I guess I DO have to wait for Squeenix though.

          There in lies the problem.

The amount of people that bang on about the machine being so powerful and so beautiful and extrapolating out that therefore it is destined for success.

The psp is undeniably a sexy piece of kit, that is fact. But it needs more then that in the portable market place.

Still playing my PSP daily, but then Lumines for me is one of the best puzzle games ever, ranking up there with Tetris and Dr Mario for me. List of games bought so far is:

              Ridge Racers
              Lumines
              THUG2: Remix
              Mercury
              Wipeout Pure
              Hot Shots Golf

Sold THUG as i felt whilst a very good 'conversion' it just is more suited to playing on a big screen with a proper pad. Ridge still goes in now and again, although i got to a certain stage and havent progressed so moved on... Mercury is stunning if you like puzzlers, Wipeout... is very good but something doesnt click with me. Hot Shots is a great golf game definately.

Next i might try Densha as played it a few times at a friends and find it absorbing. Other than that... well i'm glad i've kept my machine v.1, once the SNES and PCE emus are better they'll be going on the machine along with the GBC emu already there. Entire SNES back-cat in my pocket? Yes please!

Yeah when its been on the GP32 for over a year now

Surely if that was a major reason for buying the console you would have a GP32 or a Zodiac.

Additionally, generally when you ask someone why they want a PSP, they can't acutally tell you.

You've got to hand it to Sony though, it's great at pissing on people's heads and telling them it's raining (see Cell hype, which was the same hype it peddled with the PS2/emotion engine, but nobody's noticed yet and they're all falling for it anew).

If something leapt out at me, I'd get a PSP tomorrow, but it hasn't happened yet, and paying ?20 (more than a DVD) to watch films on a tiny screen doesn't excite me very much at all./

I wanted one to have an up-to-date home console experience in handheld form - something that's been impossible untill now. In the past, handheld games have been at least a generation behind in nature.

Yes, the UMD movies are expensive, but it's the Japanese UMDs that are ?20, which is actually still less than your typical Japanese DVD since they cost almost as much as videogames over there. I believe it's a different story with American UMDs though as I've seen people mention getting them for ?10 or so.

I was really referring to your average Joe with regards to not knowing why one would want a PSP. Should've made that clearer. Sorry about that.

If UK UMDs are reasonably priced, then fair enough, but can you really see that happening in this country? I reckon they'd be the same price as a DVD at least. We'll see though...

Watching on a tiny screen? Hold you PSP at the normal distance you have it when you play a game or whatever and compare it to the size of your TV screen across the room, from where you normally sit. Admittedly I have 24" widescreen (which is not huge). There is not a lot of difference in perceived screen size between a PSP screen from a 18" away and the TV across the room.

So you're telling me that watching a movie on a PSP is the same as watching it at home!? Come on!

Well, because of the price, I've only bought a couple. Mainly to see what they're like tbh, but I had to get TRON as well. If they were cheaper, I would definitely be interested in getting a few more.

I feel they'll need to be ~?14.99 or so in the UK for them to take off. Any more, and people will probably just buy a game instead.
