    Resident Evil GC appreciation thread

After playing this on and off for the last couple of months, my girlfriend and I finally completed it yesterday.

All I can say is what a fantastic game. Words fail to describe just how much effort must have gone into this remake. Everytime we thought we must be near the end another huge section opened up and off we went again!

The games productions values go waay beyond the call of duty with everything reaking of atmosphere right from the off. Without fail, all of the games locations are superbly realised and many simply breathtaking in their imagination.

I remember going out to buy the original jap version in '96. I played it for a while then gave up because of the language barrier. Getting the chance to play it again I now realise what I missed and how pitifully far I got into the game itself!

Anyway I was just wondering what others thought of the remake themselves as there seems to be very little love for this gem here? I know resi 4 is by all accounts great but it would be such a shame if people overlooked this gem, even with its archaic control scheme!

Incidentally, I got hold of number 2 recently but eurgh... those gfx are bad. We'll perservere but I hope the story compensates for the ps era gfx? Anyone willing to vouch for this?

If you liked it that much I believe Resident Evil Zero is pretty good !

Played it through and certainly enjoyed it - Worth a playthrough for fans of the original definately. Some of the scenes were amazingly well done.

Yeah Resi Zero is pretty good. Though to be honest Resi 4 blows them both away through both barrels of its sweet sweet riot gun.

Yes I'm almost ready for a rerun of Resi4 on the harder settings - Never did get round to that.

I think now I've forgotten just how good some of the "moments" in it were - mine-carting and the ski-lift things spring to mind as standouts for me.

But we're veering OT - sorry gizmo

Yeah I'm hearing the resi4 love! I'm a little worried though that the more shooty direction of it will put off my girly. She likes the whole haunted house puzzle thang...

I'll get round to playing it but I'm kinda in the mood to play through the series in sequence, so that I can take the story arc all in.

Zero sounds like it should be great though. Any resident evil 2 players out there with good things to say?

She'll love zero then. It really is more of the same.

resident evil 2 was my favourite until 4 came along. it has 4 scenarios which are all different, the best story arch and some damn memorable moments. You should try and ignore the now v old school grafx because it really is worth the effort.
Also has the best unlockables! So many neat touches including the way it just feels like a city overrun should do!

                  Great post gizmo.

The remake does justice to the original in every way and I thoroughly enjoyed playing through it. I even liked the extra touches such as the Zombie BBQ fluid and the dagger/flash grenade escape weapon. Nothing like jamming a grenade in a zomb's maw and firing off a cap while hollering 'eat this!'.

It's an audio visual delight, the artists really have brought that mansion to life. I recently tried to play it through on Hard mode but the stingy ammo and those redclaw zombies make it very tough indeed. I will unlock that Samurai Edge though...

Contrary to what folks have said, I heartily recommend you AVOID RE-Zero. Think Devil May Cry 1 vs. Devil May Cry 2 - a different team, different budget, different play mechanics. I only played it about an hour before returning the damn thing. I found it tedium incarnate to see the play mechanic of requiring both characters to solve puzzles.

infact there hasnt been 1 bad resident evil main game, i;m not including games like dead aim or gun survivor - just the main games

                    Resi zero is excellent

If you want to go for total excitement unlock invisible enemy mode nothing ****s you up more than hearing somthing in the room but cant see it.

Well thats not totally true if you look a the floor you can see dust rising from the footprints.

Love the remake it's probably my fave biohazard game (gasp yes even more fave than bio 4)

Agreed. Thought zero was spot on.

Playing through them all in order,on Claire's story on 2 at the mo. Desperate to play 4 but i must resist the urge. At one point i had 40 ish copies of it!

                        Cannae wait!

Are 3 and CV any good?

Biohazard 3 i liked a lot, hehe nemesis spices things up a bit as he can open doors. You think you have outrun him & your safe then BAM he comes through the door.

Sounds like a bit of difference of opinion on Zero but I don't see too much to suggest we'd not love it?

The over riding impression I got from the remake was that it was a real labour of love from the team. Its just so immaculately done with a lot of hours of sweat gone in to it.

Not forgetting too, its just choc full of stand out moments!

                            Who could forget SPOILER

your first encounter of those HUGE bad ass sharks! We almost **** outselves!

                            Top scary thrills stuff!

Incidentally as it was one of the few games my girlfriend really got into, I relented and played as Jill... Anyone care to convince me to go through it again as Chris? The montage at the end showed heaps of interesting tidbits that have seriously piqued my interest!

Roddie, hang in there dude, its a masterpiece! Where are you up to?

Oh man, now you've mentioned Neptune and set me off. One of the best bits of the game for me

It's really worth playing through it as Chris if you haven't. It's not a totally different game, but its worth it enough to play through it again for the differences.

Coincidently my gf also loves the RE series. That and the Silent Hill series are the only games she makes a point of sitting and watching me play
