Getting a US-NTSC Gamecube 2 days after release (mate flew back the day after release), plugging it into the mains without using a stepdown. Pop went the PSU, an agonising 3 week wait for a replacement to come through with the Cube, Luigis Mansion, Waverace and Rogue Leader sitting there gathering dust

Got ONE gaming mistake i will always kick my own arse over, walked into G-Force in glasgow a long time ago eyeing up a new saturn game, saw Street Fighter Collection and Panzer Dragoon Saga on shelf, the rest they say is history I came out with one of them
Also at one point trading in my Mega Drive with around about 50+games + Mega CD 1 and 10 games for a SNES and around about as many games BUT looking back now i just loved that Mega CD 1, IT HAD A CD TRAY and FLASHING ACCESS LIGHTS, i was amazed by those.

Buying a Japanese PlayStation with Ridge Racer for ?400 (not as steep as it sounds, for the time) and then having to hide the ****er from my then girlfriend.

She'd specifically told me not to buy one and couldn't understand why I wasn't happy playing Castle of Illusion on her brother's old Mega Drive, but I had to have it. My Ridge gaming sessions became a bit like watching porn vids on the sly, I'd fire it up when she was out and indulge myself. Eventually she walked in on me during the act (so to speak), I made a pathetic attempt to hide the machine and mumbled something about it belonging to a friend.

This was the straw that broke the camel's back and soon after I found myself kicked out of the house (I shared it with my girlfriend, her sister and her sister's boyfriend) and living back with a bunch of potheads in halls of residence (the best of times the worst of times, etc). Thinking about it, that was when the drinking started to become a real problem, damn Sony.

Also, buying a Doctor 64 at the same time as I bought my N64, this pretty much killed the machine for me and to this day I've never really been able to get into the N64.

            * Not buying a PS2 until this August. I'd always written it off after all the stupid kids crowded around the PS2 section in stores and that. Unfortunately it meant missing out on tons of quality jap stuff. If I had known just how great Disgaea and DMC3 were, I would have bought it sooner.

            * Buying World of Warcraft.

            * I also bought Tiberian Sun. For full price. Ack!

i had one of these and for it too work properly you had to have 1 original game in the cartridge slot - i think it used the memory on the cartridge

anyway i always had this crappy cart and my pride and joy was my super mario 64 cart with all 120 stars - yoshi on the roof - 99 lives you get the picture

1 morning i couldnt find my crappy cart so i used the mario one

to my utter dis-belief it wiped the cart - losing all my hard earned time

i was gutted for weeks - infact so i sold it soon afterwards

Yeah, the Doctor V64 was a (if you'll excuse my language) piece of ****. I've still got two of them, ****ing awful machines. Now the WildCard, that was a nice piece of kit, were it not for the WC I'd never have enjoyed the pleasures of Tetris Battle Gaiden.

Wasting 22 quid when i was only 14 on Marble MAdness for the Gameboy. I had finished it before I had even got off the bus on the way home from the shop.

Selling all of my Xbox games prior to my move abroad and knowing that the tit at my local used game shop was going to give me a about 2 quid each for them and then sell them as new for 20. I told them that I would rather give them away than take their measly offer, so I did.

Selling my SNES and games incl SquareSoft US games to upgrade to N64.

Buying Vendetta on the c64 for a tenner. Finished it in about 2 hours. Was good while it lasted, but what a rip.

Buying a Nintendo Virtual Boy! Played it about three times, then the batteries ran out and it was shoved under the bed out of view. Luckily I didn't lose out money wise as approx 18 months ago I traded it at Gamstation for an Xbox with about 5 new games.

Also, one Xmas as a teenager I had enough cash for one Snes game, either Super Metroid or Earthworm Jim. The bastard at Dixons assured me that EWJ was far and away the better game so I ended up buying that and not experiencing Metroid til years later.

                          Buying:
Shortly after the Jap Saturn launch, eager to experience something new, I drove a 30 mile round trip to buy The Deadalus Encounter. Seconds into playing I knew it was the worst game imaginable. Ruined my day.

                          Selling:
Ico. I bought the US version when it came out. Played it through once and shelved it, savouring the experience. Then, when the Pal LE came out I sold it and got the Pal one. But, based on the stupid idea I didn't want to play it through a second time as it could never be as good I sold it. Now I'm Ico-less. My favourite game of this generation and I don't own a copy.

Getting rid of my Amiga. What was I thinking? I would still play that loads if I had it now.

Buying Neo Geo and arcade hardware - what was I thinking? Now I am addicted to carts and PCBs. Same goes for Saturn - it is constantly on my mind which Saturn games I want to buy next.

As with many peeps on here, I have done some shocking trade-ins in the past, too - particularly SNES, N64 and PS1 games - mainly to CEX in Southampton. What was I thinking?

                              Mortal Kombat Mythologies *shudders*

My experience went something like this:

walk, walk, walk - badguy, punch, walk, walk, walk, gaping hole which you couldn't jump easily, yaaaaaaaaargh, splat.

Fortunately, I found out how dire of a game it was while I still had time to return it, otherwise it could have been SOOOOO much worse
