What's with the Xbox 360 haters?

I'm not understanding the apparent internet backlash against the 360. I'm really looking forward to the console, but everywhere I go on the net, there are negative comments in blogs, snide news stories, and fanboyism at it's worst in some lesser forums.

What tipped me over the edge was this piece on IGN ( http://cube.ign.com/articles/670/670078p1.html ) - 10 reasons to wait for the Revolution over the Xbox 360. It prompted me to write a mini rebuttle ( http://www.in5ane.com/blogs/in5ane/6614 )

I don't get it. Am I wrong in thinking this is probably the best console launch ever? 18 GAMES! And there are at least 5 ones I'm definitely interested in. I fear i've turned into a fanboy and not realised it.

The only theory I can think of is because the 360 is made by Microsoft- is that really enough?

I realise this might get some negative comments, let's keep it civilised eh?

"For the record, we have already purchased our Xbox 360 consoles and we would recommend the console to players whose wallets know no boundaries.

And yet, what kind of editors would we be if we didn't play devil's advocate? Are there any reasons not to get an Xbox 360? And just as valuable to any Nintendo fan, are there any advantages to passing on Microsoft's system altogether and getting a Revolution instead? We thought about both questions for a time and came up with 10 legitimate reasons for single-system users to wait it out. Here they are?"

The "top 10 reasons to wait for X" are firmly tongue in cheek, I believe, but I can understand it's frustrating when intarweb people take it as gospel and start reciting it like a mantra.

Essentially, I think the "backlash" is because it's new (always a dodgy ground with humanity), and that not everybody has been able to lay their hands on one. Disappointment and bitterness seeps in, and people spew vitriol onto the internet in a half arsed attempt to convince themselves that they don't want one anyway.

Either that or we've all got to the (somewhat unfortunate) point where nothing is ever going to be good enough, and people are actually genuinely pissed off at Microsoft for not keeping to the individuals schedule and expectations of when a console should be launched.

        Heh.

Me? I'm an enthusiast, and I can't wait. New consoles are always exciting experiences, especially when there's a title like PGR3 on the shelves on the first day, so I just let the cynicism wash over me. They'll all buy one in the end... look at the corellation of people who stated "OMG! Too early! Not getting it for 3 years", and then immediately posted how they'd got theirs pre-ordered the second a relevant thread was available.

        Yay!

It happens with every single launch - it's nothing new. People like to take the negative stance to provoke reaction.

It'd be a boring world without them though !!!

How can you get angry about an article on the GAMECUBE section of the website by generally UN-BIAS editors that normally SLAG NINTENDO OFF if they even put a foot wrong and they have already PURCHASED AN XBOX 360?

It's an article that they know will appeal to their core audience. And in reading it I didn't feel negativity towards the 360, I felt like a couldn't wait to get my Revolution - That is all!

It's on cube.ign though. It's all about Nintendo innit. It's like getting Iwata-san to write a report on the 360, of course it's going to be biased.

Oh man I just read your comeback post and I hope that one WAS tongue in cheek, it is ten times worse than the IGN article with ten times more stereotypes and fifty times the lack of facts! Cor!

I particularly like the comments like "Revolution is small stylish and quiet". Really? Got one have you?

I don't think you can moan when people give reasonable reasons why they are not interested in the 360. You can aruge the other side of the coin that people are getting so excited about buying the console to justify the fact that they are doing so. Its a moot point though if you want to play the games and can afford it. I don't think an article on ign.cube is going to sway many peoples minds anyway.

There are three main reasons why I won't be getting one:

1 - cost. Plain and simple I can't afford it.
2 - HDTV. I've seen the images that show if you haven't got a HDTV or equivalent then it looks no better than the XBox. So if the games offer nothing new, i'll stick to the XBox.
3 - Live. Not interested at all, neither playing on it, or paying to download extra content etc.

Of course these are all relevent to me and shouldn't affect your decision one iota.

                        Enjoy your console

I possess the ultimate justification. I had to sell my Xbox for rent money earlier this year, but now I've got a student job again, do I spend ?80 on another Xbox1, or just go the whole hog and get the 360?

                              Heh.

                              Obvious, really.

edit - Also, my dad just bought an HDTV. Might grace them with my presence this christmas...
