I can only tell that I have the official cable and never had any problems with ghosting or interference, looks crisp and clean (and colourful) on my Bravia TV.

Well I hooked up the official VGA on my new Panny Viera TH-37PX70. I can see what people are complaining about but once I ramped up the Contrast, Brightness, Colour and matched my screens resolution it looked better than official Component cable to my eyes.

          I cant believe that the ?45+ monster cable is a justifiable purchase IMHO TBH. . . . . . . . .

would love to test it out though

I've got a VGA cable that has really irritating white shadows can't remember what make it was but think it was a Joytech, so I'm going to be forking out for an official one if thats the problem

Yeah, I'd like to try the Monster VGA cable. It's available for under ?20 on eBay.com but after postage is factored in ceases being a good deal.

i had both the official cable and the monster VGA cable and there was no difference between them in my eyes.

Maybe i need new eyes though

Spent some time yesterday comparing the official VGA cable to the official component and Monster component cables and, on a WLT68, VGA is by far the better cable. It's simply much cleaner and sharper than component and I didn't notice the 'washed-out colour syndrome' many others experience.

Yes, I've done the same thing including the monster VGA cable and the official M$ VGA is the best one for me also after a little tweaking.

What settings do you have your WLT68 on (colour etc)?

Only 3 settings are adjustable in PC (VGA) Picture setup, and from memory I think I set mine to Backlight: 15, Contrast: 94 and Brightness: 62.

Dunno if the colour settings from standard ATV and DTV modes are automatically used for the PC input but I remember setting the colour to 41. I can't remember the other settings I'm afraid, but I'll note them down and post them here later today.

If you have the WLT68 set up properly (sharpness at -50 etc) there shouldn't be much difference between the two leads really, the only change would be colour, as brightness has to be so low on VGA for proper blacks, until they release the patch next week. (you should have contrast at 100, brightness at 38, and backlight at your own preference for VGA)

Curious, is 100% contrast the general rule for most screens VGA (properly implemented)?.

On an LCD you want to have contrast as high as possible, as long as there is no clipping. The WLT68 can go to max while still showing all the highlight detail.

Use the backlight control to lower overall screen brightness.

With LCDs, lowering the contrast control to dim things has the effect of putting something in front of the screen to block the light, whereas backlight just turns down the light itself.

I'll give those settings a go later, see if they improve things.

You mentioned setting sharpness to -50, I tried that through my SKYHD box fitted with a QED HDMI cable but found the image was too soft, on BBCNEWS24 for example the ticker bar and clock had very poor definition.
