You can go into the service menu and adjust for this though. But component is just as good anyway.

Well, after playing Crackdown on both my Samsung 205bw monitor thru VGA & playing it on my 20" Samsung CRT I've decided that, shock horror!!, the CRT is better!!

Its probably down to my monitor but I've fiddled with it so much to get summat decent & although its clear & crisp looking as soon as you start panning 360 degrees around the city it just looks bad.

The only adjustments in the service menu are for greyscale calibration, nothing else.

CRT monitors are awesome. CRT televisions, not so much...

If there was a large CRT TV on the market that was as good as a decent CRT monitor I'd gladly lose a few ft from my room.

I'd love one of those 24" Sony 1080p CRT monitors they used to make, I bet they're awesome.

Have you looked at the 32" HD Samsung CRT set with HDMI and what not? The main reason for the blurring is down to the response rate of the LCD panel mind.

A Decent response LCD will look good in motion, not as good as a CRT but at the same time LCD does give far nicer picture quality and so is actually an improvement overall imo. I certainly can't argue with either my 32" Bravia or my 19" widescreen Samsung TV/Monitor for gaming and I'm really picky, I couldn't use my old LCD displays at all for gaming.

Those Samsung Tvs are quite well documented as being not that great, they also don't display a true 720p image.

How mate? When i use the service menu i only get the 6 colour adjustments...i've been warned off the other options. Can i adjust sharpness and stuff for the VGA?

There isn't any sharpness options and they certainly won't be turned on. Your cable must of been fudged.

I took the official back and got given a joytech one for free off a mate. PQ is the same as the official but via the service menu you can seriously brighten it up...set the RGB and RGB BK values to a few 100 more than standard and the picture is bright as a button. Gears, Fear and Oblivion look stunning, way better than component.

The next dashboard update has been confirmed to allow you to mess around with the colours on VGA.

                      Sharpness would be nice too.

If they have a brightness or gamma control in there, they've just lost a potential Elite sale from me. The only thing I dislike about the 360 is its dark video output - I was hoping HDMI might fix that, but if VGA gets these options I'll stick with what I've got and not have to deal with the hassle of moving purchased content onto another system.

No, it wouldn't. The main advantage of using VGA is that it gets rid of the sharpness control, meaning no ugly ringing/"halos" around the edges of everything.

My VGA output has shadows. I'll be getting an Elite i think, my PS3 via HDMI is a joy to behold compared to the 360.

I thought the new update simply allowed you to switch between PC and Video colourspace?

Ah, well that would make a lot more sense. (I did wonder how they would add in something like that)

Should fix the issues most people are having though.

I'd like to know the answer to this question as well please!
