I use VGA on mine, it looks alot sharper to my eyes. Once I had component set up correctly too I couldn't see the difference in colour between VGA and component.

I prefer to use VGA, but that's mostly out of convenience - if I use VGA, it means my Wii can use Component, and HDMI for the PS3, rather than having to get a component switcher.

There's not much between them, other than some overscan on component vs none with VGA.

Cheers, fellas. One more question, is the official Microsoft VGA cable the one to get or is it worth investing a little extra in something like the Monster VGA cable?

I noticed a huge jump in quality when I switched from VGA, which always looked washed out and flat on my HDTV or monitor, to component, which just pops with excellent colour and contrast. Both look equally sharp to me.

Also a factor for me is that my TV (42WLT66) only supports a max of 1280x720 through VGA, but I can use the full panel resolution (1920x1080) through component.

What about the tearing you get with VGA? I remember everyone complaining about the tearing in Lost Planet when it came out - which I couldn't understand as I hadn't noticed any...untill I played it in VGA.

Some glitch with Capcom's framework engine, which seem to cause spontaneous screen tearing in VGA for no good reason.

Lost Planet tears on the title screen WTF
and Dead Rising will tear now and then.

Everything is else fine, just those 2 games go weird.

I have a WLT58 and use component. I don't like the way that you can't alter the individual colour levels on VGA. How do you get over that?

I use VGA for my Mac, and have calibrated the colours on the Mac.

VGA on the 360 looks good but it's a down to your screen as well, on my old 26" Sammy from 2005 everything looked washed out and the screen looked like it had a white filter over it. On my new N73 32" Sammy it looks far better than before, that's mainly down to the fact that you get more option for changing the display settings on the newer model when using VGA.

I have my LG26" through VGA. Thing is, my TV lets me choose between two options: PC and DTV. If I choose PC it shows that the TV is outputting 1280*720 and the colours are all washed out. Switch it to DTV though and the TV then says it's outputting at 720p and the colours are much, much brighter. I do not get the option to switch from PC to DTV at any other resolution. Not sure what's going on, but it's something in my TV that is doing something to the colours to make it look better.

I just bought a VGA cable for my 360 on my new sony w2000 and it looks crap, even in 1080p full pixel mode. It's way better in component 1080i. Rubbish. It's dark, blurry and just unusable. Comparably, the ps3 hdmi 1080p looks amazing.

There are VGA fixes coming in the 'spring' dash update.

                          Sounds like your cables ****ed.

VT3 through VGA set to 1080p on my W2000 is stunning.

Its a new cable, but actually when i opened it the pins were all bent...but it seems to work ok. The picture is blurry though, no question. And dark. You think it's a fault?

You lot do know that most tvs load a completely different gamma for each input and each resolution??

So you can't go from component to vga, or even from 1024x768 to 720p or 1080i and expect it to look the same, you have to recalibrate your set.

vga input locks down most adjustments on my w2000, i've taken the cable back. the ps3 looks awesome over hdmi so i'll just buy the elite model in summer.
