Got my Jap Dreamcast 1 week before the UK launch mainly for Soul Calibur. But also picked up second hand Sonic Adventure, Sega Rally 2, And Streetfighter alpha 3. Loved my Saturn and just saw this as the next natural progression. Plus I had just got a bonus from work. Wasn't too interested in the Pal machine as I assumed we would suffer from the usual poor conversions and long waiting times. However had to get my machine chipped a while later when it looked like DoA 2 wasn't going to be released in Japan. Never regretted that though. Best collection of games on any system ever. My PS1 has long since been packed away while my Dreamcast still sits under my telly right next to my trusty Sega Saturn. They will never be packed away.

Got my PAL one at midnight on launch at EB, remember it well stood there waiting what seemd like ages watching sonic adventure running onscreen in the shop thinking IM HAVING YOU!
Ran in shop when it opend with a good 20people ahead of me, knew i wanted DC Keyboard DC VMU Powerstone and Sonic Adventure and of course a Dreamcast, got them all and it was the LAST keyboard in the shop. The guy after me said he wanted a keyboard and manager said that i had just got the last one...i then proceeded to run quickly outta the shop and into a taxi to get home to be safe, registered on dreamarena that night and then played sonic into the wee small hours!
Still a bloody good console always will be in my mind!

I got mine cos my N64 was getting a little tired and I always felt bad about never getting a Saturn. First game Soul Calibur, blew me me away. That said I never liked Sonic on the DC. I remember the original costing me a packet and loving every second of it; but the 3-d games are really poor IMO

I think that there may have been some floating about before the launch but the factory couldn't meet demand so they farmed out the PAL territory production to 3rd parties.

            Amen to that!

            I am too. Unashamedly.

I bought a Jap DC at launch and never looked back. Yeah, my PS1 still got some play but my DC was king at the time. Funny how after all those years it still gets the most playtime.

Onto the games anyway, Sega Rally 2 I thought was, and still do to some extent, awesome. There was nothing close to the joy I got when I got my system and played that for the first time! I felt like I was back in the arcades.

POWERSTONE!!!! OMG!!!! That was another reason for my early, and expensive, purchase. Still love it today. Dunno how many hours, days, weeks and months I lost to that game.......

Didn't really get on with Sonic, but I never have so no surprise there.

Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur, Virtual On and Shenmue followed. With classics like Bangai-O, Mars Matrix and Giga Wing too.

Code Veronica blew me away! I had the whole family watching me play that! (Every bloody night!)

My DC, still in pride of place at the front of my console collection. I'm a Sega fanboy, so sue me! lol

I love the console and always will. I thank Sega for that last push as it certainly gave me some of the best and most memorable gaming experiences yet.

i'll second that...as soon as the japan version came out i went out and got the console.
within a week i had sonic adventure and sega rally as well though.

definately the console i've used the most....and my favourite ever too.

I got mine a whole lot later than most of the people here, my brother got one a few months previous and was really hyping it, so when the price reductions started i decided to give it a go, and havent regretted it, its definately one of my favourite consoles, just behind the snes

I picked up my Dreamcast because I played Sonic and liked it and really needed to have something to do in Spain over the summer holiday

What a great decision. At first I LOVED it, then for the few months after I regretted it as all I had to play was Tomb Raider 4 and ChuChu Rocket which I wasn't too fond of. Then came Crazy Taxi and the great games started to flow in (Jet Set, Shenmue, Quake 3 etc over Christmas 2000 ). My friends told me it was crap and stuff with the PS2 launch coming up but that just made me stand by it more. I'm still glad I did.

I got a jap dreamcast at launch with godzilla but then I got sonic adventure, the most impressive thing about that game to me was the fact that the walls almost looked real, It was the last great jump in console graphics and awe.

Bought mine for Sega Bass Fishing. The whole concept of using a fishing rod controller was the thing that did it for me.

Code Veronica was also a special game, and not forgetting Shenmue, which was an unbelievable effort

And yeah, my DC is still sitting in the front room under my tv.

I got my first dc (jap) around my birthday in august, got sonic adventure and soul caliber. Quality games i remeber leaving the sonic adventure for three days straight (or perhaps it was because i didnt have a memory card >_&lt i used sould caliber to prove a point:

"DC's dead already ps2 will kick its ass"

<--- me "oh really :uts in sc::

"er where do you get the dc from again?"

until the dark day when a stepdown cost me the life of my jap dc, since then it was never the same, i got a pal one but it didnt feel right you know?

                        sniff

oh and because my mate wanted me to put it in

The Sega Bass Fishing rod was only sold in Europe through the Sega online shop, they didn't farm it out to a third party, but someone (interplay?) released the Fission Controller (ho ho!).

There is an official PAL Sega Bass fishing set that has the cover art on the box, which was only released in Australia. I bought the Sega rod online.

Reason i got a Dreamcast? Cause it was by sega, simple as that Got mine a couple of months after jpn launch with sega rally 2, sonic adventure and VF3. Sonic was probably the title at the time that blew me away, with some fantastic texture work and graphics which at the time had never been seen on any console. Dreamcast for me was true next gen hardware and was the first console that could match the arcades and deliver a true arcade perfect port and was probably the turning point where consoles started to out perform arcades. Even to this day theres not alot really out on ps2, xbox and cube which you can say is far superior than what has been made on DC. No console to this day has gave me as much excitment or gaming pleasure than the dreamcast. Sorry to see it go

Got PAL DC on launch day from comet...was very surprised to see no-one else in there as excited as me, in fact there was no-one else in there at all...which kinda threw me.

Bought it because i AM a sega fanboy. i just think theyre stuff is better than anyone elses. big respect to the company from whenever it was i started playing arcade games. Thought that the machine had huge potential, from a promo video i saw, plus it was the first true next gen console to be released imo.

Unfortunately had to sell the beast a few months after i got it coz i was in debt, but traded in my collection of Jap megadrive games for another one a few months later. had to sell that one too, but sure enough i bought another one...and another one (when the last imploded). the current one i have is now completely invaluable. i have many great games, can play homegrown games on it, play vcds and avis through it, view pictures play mp3s, (id like to see any of the others do all this)....its just ****in marvellous. even bought it a new monitor so it can look prettier.....

can you tell i love it? and it has just gotten better with age...i dont even care (that much) that people arent releasing official games for it anymore.

people that havent got one have no excuse for buying a unit for ?25 and getting all this great Sega goodness and i preach this to almost everyone i know.

I played on them for some while, then i bought Soul Calibur, still playing that one. Even i got the Sequel. Ahh those memory's when i played on my DC for the first time!
