I've downloaded a couple of demos Killzone + Syphon Filter - a great idea & not utilised enough by sony.

the potential for psp is there - it has been criminally underused thus far

Test Drive Unlimited on the PSP is outsanding - online play is superb and you can actually find people to play.

Damn you PSP demographic for not buying Outrun 2006 - no one ever online =(

Lets hope "year of the PSP" comes true then. I'm going to wait for the all but confirmed remodelling what will supposedly add 8 gig of internal memory and fingers crossed, a faster screen as that would pretty much make it the perfect traditional portable console imo.

I was going to sell my PSP a month or so ago but then I realised that no other portable device offers me the ability to play video and music, view photos, browse the internet and play a large selection of current and emulated games all in one go.

Although the games lineup for the PSP itself isn't as good as the DS, there is so much more that you can do with it outside of gaming that it is almost timeless. I can certainly see it being my journey buddy for years to come.

Have they said when the remodelled PSP is meant to be out? Im looking to get one before I go away on holiday at the end of July.

I'm hoping it'd be soon, hopefully something will be announced at that new E3 thing or whatever. Guess it depends how the PSP price drop does first.

I got a problem guys, i got a 4gig Killzone psp yesterday (loving it) but Outrun won't recognise the memory card, so i can't save my game, is there any way around this or is it back to the shop time?

If it's specific to your Outrun copy I'd think it's an issue specific to your UMD esp. if it isn't happening with other games. Probably want to exchange it.

back on topic received MGS Digital Graphic Novel today from Amazon - very nicely done, a lot of thought went into this and it is a highly unique, very enjoyable experience.

You have 2 options. Either way you'll need to be able to hook up your MemoryStick to a PC running Windows.
                    1) If you also have a smaller memory card, start your game on that, then transfer the save file to the 4GB card, via your PC
                    2) Connect the MemoryStick to your PC so it comes up as a removable drive. Format it to FAT16 instead of FAT32.

That second one is the real cure, I've done this myself and the Outrun 2006 issue you described was the very same reason I did it. I've also read you get a performance boost in reduced read times with FAT16 but my own benchmarking hasn't corroborated that.

You can only do it in the command prompt window. You have to use the format command. However, FAT32 is the default format for devices of 4GB and above (the GUI for formatting doesn't even give FAT32 as an option). The general scheme of the format command is

                    format drive_letter: /options

where drive_letter is whatever the card appeared as in Windows Explorer. Be careful to get this right or you might format you hard disc instead!!!

I believe the options you want are /FS:FAT

So basically that is something like:

                    FORMAT X: /FS:FAT

where X is the driveletter your MemoryStick got when you connected it. When it runs it should say something about 64K clusters or allocation units or something - that's just fine, go with it.

BTW you can either use a memory card adapter (typically USB) for the PC, or by putting the MemoryStick in the PSP and connecting the PSP to the PC with a USB lead. If you don't have one, you can easily get them in GAME for about ?7, with a built in power line to charge the PSP off your PC. If you already have a USB type 'A' to type 'B' lead, like many digital cameras use, that will do too. You have to set the PSP into USB mode via the System menu before Windows will pick it up BTW.

Stick with it, Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast is one of the best games on PSP. If you have firmware version 3.03 or lower, you can also get custom firmware that will allow you to increase the clock-speed of the PSP's CPU - running Outrun at 333MHz makes all the difference in terms of both graphics framerate and car handling - I'm sure the game was originally designed for it, but Sony wouldn't let them.

If I make this change in the set-up, is it safe to leave it set at 333MHz or do I have to change it back when playing anything else?

yeah should be fine to leave at 333 - heck I do!

I think only Ratchet & Clank is sensitive to 333mhz - i.e it won't work unless you set the cpu specifically to 265 or 266.

333mhz is perfect for Outrun, Toca 3, and most ps2 ports, with the tradeoff being faster battery drain. I use the middle speed more often myself.

Just shows how good the PSP can be, and what a mess Sony made by crippling it's power, even though they still boast of its superior '333mhz processor'..

                            What does PS1 emulation require?

Edit: And by this terse query I mean does PS1 emulation need 333mhz or does it work well at 266?

It works fine at 266. Some say the overclock override doesn't actually take effect in POPS (the PSOne emulator) and that POPS itself clocks up and down the PSP as needed. I don't know if that's true though.

Wow, what a difference with Outrun

When changing the clock speed there were actually 2 settings set at 200 and I changed them both to 333. Is that correct?
