Everytime I see the word Wii i'm getting excited, moreso than i ever been for the other launch consoles since the gamecube. I'm not a NIntendo fanboy but I always love the anticpation for their machines the most.

This is a gaming milestone, whether it works or not every single gamer should be super pumped up for this.

In what way is a gaming milestone? Motion detection isn't anything new, emulation isn't new, online isn't new, SD isn't new.

They allowed it with the 64DD and the other online services,so why not on the wii?Contrary to popular belief, Nintendo are not stuck in the dark ages ffs.
Randnet, the 64DD's online service, was subscription-based, yes. I assume it worked by direct debit. I can't find any info to suggest that Nintendo had secure systems in place to allow you to input your credit card details through the console itself.

I'd hardly say that the short-lived and Japanese-only Randnet (and "other online services"? You mean Satellaview?) are sufficient to expect Nintendo to implement a global secure transaction and accounting system like Live.

All I'm saying is there isn't a lot of precedence for this. Nintendo are still relatively inexperienced in the online realm, but that's not a dig at Nintendo, I thought it was wise of them to avoid it until now. If they do pull something out of their hat which is much more comparable to Live, then I'd just be a little surprised.

Where else have you seen all of those components rolled into a plug in console? Come on mate, you gotta admit it's pretty special and a breakthrough for gaming. Motion detection has never been this good from what i've seen and until you've played it for longer than 10 minutes at a booth at E3 or whatever then i'd say you've yet to experience it.

I love the wii and have a deposit that is set in stone but im not a Zelda fan bar Rayman and maybe Red Steel (if reviewed well) there is not much there for launch

Disagree. Nintendo are good at what they do but are hardly at the cutting edge. A dubious control method doesn't make it a must buy for me, the IP puts me off too, too repetative.

I have seen some criticisms of the control method being shoe-horned in, for want of a better word, but until I play it, I won't know how valid this criticism is. Even Edge noted some concern over it recently didn't they?

Does anyone think the Preview videos for wii games look like something from the 80's?
Check out any game on eurogamer TV and its bound to have some people jumping around like idiots with the controler, its really putting me off the wii!!

Point that people have often missed is that Nintendo delayed Twilight Princess for whole year to add Wii controls into game. That's more than most games get development time, and is far from "hasty" or "shoehorned" integration. It's even quite possible that Wii development also affected other game aspects, making Wii version superior version (as Wii versio was called by Edge, IGN, Famitsu and Game Watch).

Ah right I get you now.I still think that Ninty will use a credit card based system as nearly everyone has a credit card in the west and will open up more revunue for them in the long run.

I just had a bit of a scan and every single Wii preview mentions that you'll be able to buy Wii Points either via the Wii Shop Channel or in stores on points cards. Still digging for the official press release but i'm pretty much certain you can buy them online.

EDIT: if i'm wrong, feel free to tar and feather me

They just are not releasing anything to get me really, really excited lately. am really looking forward to playing elebits more than any first party wii game at the moment as I will be getting Zelda on the cube as swinging my arms around to slash the sword has totally put me off the wii version.

I think Nintendo really has to get something more going soon, as they are definetly losing momentum in my opinion.
Swinging your arms about on the Wii version will not get you anywhere, Im sure they made it like other games so small wrist gestures will do plus I bet there will be a sensitivity setting so you can minimize the movements.

Zelda = Game you tend to play for hours
Hours of moving arms about = Tired and weak muscles

Nintendo WILL have thought about this.

Yep, i'm QA on BWii and have been for 4 months (until next weekend, where i depart) and it's all about wrist movements, I play the Wii for 7 and a half hours a day and not had any problems with my wrist.

My Boss played one for about 3 hours Tuesday, he said it doesn't tire you out at all. He also said pretty much everything he played on it was amazing and now wouldn't be surprised if it beats the PS3. If 3 hours turn someone from thinking PS3 will be king by a long way to total opposite, it must be doing something right.

He also said the sensetivity of the controllers was spot on and picking up movement was incredibly accurate, which pretty much solves my biggest fear. Oh and apparantly Mouse and Keyboard is now redundant as the primary FPS control method.
