Notice how he can't even call it Wii himself:
"According to Atwood, the cure for our misgivings about this most unfortunate of handles will be hands-on experience of the console: 'Once you touch the Revolution, this will make more sense. Once you play more games, and once the system is out, and more and more people play it, and you're realizing these different experiences, it'll make more sense.'"

Originally posted by The CobraThere's no need to change it, the name is fine. You're still all going to buy it no matter what it's called, so what's all this rubbish about 'hoping for a name change, for the west?' Get a grip chaps.
It's still going to be revolutionary, and I can't wait. Roll on E3.
The problem is that casual and mainstream gamers will be massively put off by the name - which means that sales will be restricted to the hardcore - third parties will drop support - those who care (us) will have bugger all to play.

I think that you are being totally melodramatic, I mean if the games are good, people will buy it no matter what it's called.
This thread is now verging on the ridiculous really.Plus the good third parties will be into it no matter what the us or uk hardcore think if the machine replicates the success of the Ds in Japan, which I think it will.
I bet the Japanese are not having silly discussions likie this today and are still looking forward to what will stilll be a great little machine.I mean all the uk chav knobheads called the Gamecube, Gaycube...still never bought these people I know from buying one for Mokey ball.I think a bit of perspective is truly needed here.Alot of people call Playstation gaystation too by the way.
Edit: Also the Xbox, being called the xbox by the majority of us here in fact, well brick in scotland here can mean ****e.eg...I'm bricking it,don't brick it.
Do you really think we all say this and laugh at it daily, no we just get on with it.That is unless your IQ really is trapped at primary school level and you need to say things like wee wee and jobby all day and think it's all very hilarious.Last edited by Mofoman; 28-04-2006, 12:30.

Even if Wee/Wii never meant taking a piss it's stilll a **** sounding name. Go on say it your self "Wii"
I agree that "Go" was much better.
Casual Gamers, mums and dads aren't interested in what the "Wii" stands for either. It's too complicated for them and they don't care anyway.

I think that once people associate a name to a concept (console, person or anything other) it's just a matter of time for they to be used to it. with time, the name becomes "normal". "playstation" isn't the coolest name ever, isn't it? after all, if Italy get used to "sega" (in Italian, "sega" means "wank") all the world can get used to "wii".
this said, I think that a monosyllabic name, is a terrible idea, even worse as it's composed by only wovels (well, maybe "w" isn't considered a vowel (I truly don't know) but sounds very similar to "u"). just try to make a phrase with "wii" in it and listen how the preceding and following words will obfuscate it...

Oh god that took all of three seconds for my brain to think it up.

But Wii, **** me. Awful, just chronic. I thought when I first saw the title that it was something to do with WiFi, or WiiFii, but the explanation behind the name is even ****ter.
