    TA -

NCL's cred with the non-gamer will be in tatters, I think that's what matters. The whole buzz (much of it from Nintendo) with the Revolution beforehand was how it was going to attract people who ordinarily wouldn't play games. They won't with this name.

My mum, grandma or brother won't be playing on a console called Wii.

The street cred... well, Nintendo's been dead in the Playstation mainstream audience success story for years now.

      Nintendo GO suddenly sounds awesome!

I'm just trying to imagine the likes of Comet TV advert where "Nintendo Wii" could be worked in without sounding ridiculous. Nah, it's not happening.

In fact the only people who can look past the name is arguably our demographic - the so-called dedicated (or 'hardcore' ><) gamer, and we've not exactly been immune to taking the piss so far. In the Wired article in defense of the Wii, Kohler said it's only a problem with us.

No, it isn't. We're the ones who'll hopefully be able to see past the branding.

On the normal consumer level, with the types of people Nintendo want to attract away from the usual PS3/360 audiences, it's going to be either a joke or something so silly people won't want to look past. The adults, old, young, middle-aged I know will not get passed the name to give it a chance. How about the rest of you?

I really don't see what Nintendo are hoping to achieve with the name, unless the under fives are their core audience.

All this has been said before, but I can only argue the complete reverse of Wired after recently catching up in this thread.

            I know.

I've warmed to Go myself. Let's hope Spatial is right about his rumour mongering.

I bet after all this its just one big marketing joke from Nintendo just to drum up interest.

It's definitely right to assume Nintendo will be a laughing stock.

Nintendo have a pretty poor image with casual massmarket console gamers, and the name ' Wii ' will make them laugh and ultimately give them every reason to look look down at the machine.

Serious gamers will be interested in the machine, regardless of name. Lot's of people will buy it because image means nothing to people that appreciate gaming on a whole, rather than being small minded and sticking to one thing.

Go! would have been a great name, probably better than Rev. Either this is a joke, or Nintendo are mistaking a big mistake. It's quite sad really!

NCL's rep among the mainstream (in the UK at least) is bad enough as it is, and naming their new console "wee" is only gonna make it worse, I'm afraid.

it'll be funny if, somehow, the Wii manages to trump both the 360 and ps3.

                      yeah right, but what if...

Hmmm just read the article on Gamespot and they people replying dont seem to mention anything about urine/wee/Piss so I'm guessing in USA it's not a word for urine which helps I guess.

As Nintendo fans wii're used to being on the receiving end of the Sony crowds anal jokes, and now they've got even more reason to barrack fans of Nintendo.
I'm sorry, but there's no justicification in the world for that name. Its diabolical no matter how many times you tell yourself its ok, 'Its a Nintendo console. they know what they're doing'.

I'm pretty sure the person who suggested it must have been a mole from Sony or microsoft. They might aswell have itcalled the 'toilet' or the 'loo'.

Just picture the little kids of britain on the playgrounds saying I've got a wii. They're going to get their faces rubbed in the sand by the brand name bullies that are rife in society, and nintendo are virtually endorsing it. They used to be something to be proud of now its just laughing stock..

Nah, it's the same in the US. They don't have the same obsession with toilet humour as we do here, but they know the slang.

Course they do have you seen the amount of 'teeny' 'big tit' joke movies that have been made in the states. They're worse than us.

LOL. Nintendo are f*cked now with a name like that. The games will need to be out of this world because people will be expecting it and if there not, then there in deep **** and Wii. Nintendo have done themselves no favours at all in the UK, with a name like Wii they've just dug there own grave in the UK IMO.
