The Wiimotes will be wireless, for the demo pods they're wired (to stop people runnign away with them)... same for the dev kits.

I think I may have mentioned this elsewhere, but a friend of mine was totally non-plussed by the videos of the Wii, but he tried one out while at Leizpig and was totally sold and won't stop going on about it. So er... videos can't tell the whole story... or something. etc.

Thank god, I was REALLY hoping I'd missed something regarding wireless...though I have to be honest, I've not seen any news post that says they'll be wireless in the box?

Charles, it's not the videos themselves that put me off, it's the methods used. As I said, if it's aimed at NON-HD households, then playing Wii Golf stood up will be neck-pain inducing if you want to play for more than half an hour or something.

Same for any of the sports games really. I'm just thinking back to within a year ago, when I had a CRT TV. I'm 6 foot 3 and having to stand up and look down at my CRT for Golf would be uncomfortable, especially since I've had a bad back too.

Also, the shooting game...Duck Hunt anyone? Isn't it just exactly the same as using a light gun?

Jebus, I stand up and play Time Crisis and Eyetoy Play and DDR. All while looking at the CRT at normal height. The only thing that would stop me playing them after half an hour is standing up. Nothing to do with the screen height. If you want to play golf while sitting down, you'll play GC Mario Golf instead.

Yes, but most people can't use light gun's these days with progscan/100hz/plasma/lcd, unless they get the LCD TopGun with sensors and whilst they are good, they aren't perfect. Hopefully it'll be superior with the Wiimote.

Yeah but whats the point? It's hardly in depth is it.

Does it not seem like they are making more "play for 10 mins" games than in depth ones? What does Red Steel do that no other FPS can do, or is it the gimmick of the control methods that sell it. From that video it looked like any old FPS and inferior (image wise) to other next gen ones.

Will it not make developers lazy because they can make any old **** and just chuck the wii method in to make it different?

I'm only speaking from personal experience but standing up to play a golf game whilst looking down would be no good for me or my back. I've never played a light gun game stood up, nor has my closest gaming mate...

I was excited about the Wii but it's fading fast and it's started to look gimmicky to me.

When does something cross the line from gimmick to something inovative?

and why would you with the Wii? As for the golf, theres nothing saying you have to stand up to play it like that, just have to do a similar motion from a sitting position (??)

I'm sure Nintendo have thought about the game who doesn't want to smack the tennis racket about at full power and for people who dont want to actually used it standing up like a golf club.

At the end of the day, even if Nintendo decide to have the golf game standing up and you don't like it... you know what to do, buy a golf game elsewhere!

I've been concerned about these same issues for some time. You won't end up standing through games, you'll adjust sensitivity and plonk your arse on the sofa flicking your wrist.

What concerns me is at that point, the games may be too much effort and lethargy could set in.

And can all that movement be good for the wrists?

Right I know what you mean, but lets be honest...if you are NOT going to stand up and play these sports games like they are the real sport, then you may as well just use a standard pad.

More specifically, what is the point of buying a Wii, playing Wii Golf sat on your sofa with a little flick of the wrist when could play a different console golf game with a pad.

Yeah fair enough but don't they want people to buy the stuff, surely they wouldn't be happy with that attitude?

As I said, I was excited by the prospects but so far what I've seen I just feel very indifferent toward it. The shooting game I felt "What is the point"? The baseball game looked ridiculously easy...the tennis game looked like it was too hard to serve and too fiddly to ever get a good rally going...the football game, well the controls seemed pointless and tacked on.

I've not played a Wii so I could be 100% wrong, but what I've seen, I'm not in love with. It's only my opinion, not fact.

Um, they announced they would be wireless right from the start.

Battalion Wars 2 looks a fecking nightmare to control in that video. In my 15+ years of gaming, i think this is one game where i need to read the instructions first to see what the hell i'm mean't to be doing. Wii games are designed to be intuitive, looking at Battalion Wars 2 it's anything but intuitive.

With tennis I dont think there's any issue at all, standing or sitting its the same movement of arm/wrist. With golf, yeah if you want to play it that way you can, but tbh I'd rather just go out an play golf. Thinking about it its only the shot itself you 'd stand for...and just like real golf it eyes down at the ball so you wouldnt be straining by looking at the screen. The setting up of the shot could all be down when you're down, tehn stand up and take your shot. As for doing it all sitting down its just like stick control on tiger.. its just something thats more inline with the real thing than simply pressing a button three times. It might be more enjoyable..it might not. With baseball you might have a point

Whether it works or not we wont really know till we've tried it for ourselves
