    Or Nintendo.

I don't really know how to make my points in a way that makes any sense

I don't think Nintendo need to be held in comparison to Sony. I know that I can walk into a game shop and pick up a Nintendo made game and it will be of a very high standard. How often do Nintendo make a truly awful game, not that often.

The same certainly couldn't be said for Sony with stinkers like the getaway, Drakan and death jr to name but a few.

Lol! Well, there's honesty for you. I wouldn't worry about it. I often have the same problem.

Doshin the Giant is one that I can think of though!

              I quite enjoyed Doshin...

But, yeah, Nintendo have little trouble producing the goods when it comes to games. While I have not loved all of their most recent efforts (Wind Waker), the quality of some (New SMB) still have that magic they had back in the SNES days.

I kind of enjoyed it, but I think that it was probably the only game that really caused me problems trying to play it in japanese.

I kept repeatedly starting a new game. Making them hate you was fun though.

We've gone a bit off topic here, perhaps a Doshin the giant appreciation thread is in order

                  How dare you!

True it's not a big or long lasting but by god it's original and fun. I hope games like this wont be consigned to the dustbin next generation.

I agree with this thread. There's far too much unecessary moaning at the moment - much of it about Sony - and it's getting me down.

To kind of get it back on topic I will say this.

I do dislike it that Sony insists on keeping the same controller AGAIN.
I'm sure I'm not the only person that finds it uncomfortable and other than that it takes away half the fun of getting a new console.

It is always great going into a shop the week before a console is out and grappling the new design pad on the demo pod.
I've been robbed of this experience once more!

I'm not anti-anyone in particular. But I do find it annoying that Sony seem to not only continue to be the most expensive brand name, but also lack support of their device at times.

The PSP was a prime example for me, got one : loved it. Well, loved the 3 games I found that were enjoyable...but after about 4 months I was bored of those titles (they were ****ing launch titles as well!) so sold it, still nothing come out I could care less about. Biggest waste of ?200 I ever had personally.

The PS3, I won't be buying one, its FAR FAR FAR too expensive to even consider and doesn't look like it'll do enough to convince me it's better than my 360 currently is. I suppose they are relying on "average gamer #1935" to buy it, but I'd be shocked if many people had ?500+ to blow on a GAMES CONSOLE (with a game hopefully!) nowadays.

Sure it'll have some exclusive titles I'll be gutted to miss out on (DMC mainly) but I can live with that for what they are asking. Bottom line it just seems to lack anything to motivate me to buy/use it.

I also dislike the lack of innovation, or the fact that their "innovation" is usually idea theft from another company (the ps3 movement sensor on the pad and the achievement idea from the 360 spring to mind). What are they doing that is actually new, original and clever on this console? Microsoft gave us the phenomenal live arcade/marketplace which has become almost a daily routine for me to check for new FREE stuff and of course the premium content which is just another string to their bows. Add to that they have got the controller about as perfect as possible as well!

Nintendo gave us the DS! Compare the PSP to the DS (I know, I know wrong thread) and for me there is no competition. Sure the DS doesn't have "the graphics" of the psp, but the gameplay and enjoyability factor is about 300 times better for me. The DS brought a new style of playing games to me, and it got my wife actually playing games (which you'll just have to trust me on, is a bloody miracle). I have to wrestle the DS lite from her most of the time! The PSP tries to be everything at once and fails in every department individually, the DS is a handheld games console and is fantastic at it. I still believe the DS is the biggest innovation in gaming since I was very young first playing a NES. I think Sony have forgotten that whilst graphics might sell a game to mr anybody, they won't keep him coming back and playing it forever...once that original "wow" factor has worn off the game is still there to play, or not play in some cases. The DS bypasses this by being unashamed that it cannot compete with the PSP's visuals, but it blows away it's competition with the sheer gameplay of the titles.

What are Sony doing to make the market a better one? Making it more expensive for gamers? Anything else? DS makes people think about ways of making games, or adding to games. 360 gives small developers the chance to make smaller games for the marketplace, amongst other things...thats one of my biggest problems with sony. Sony decided to side with Blueray and make UMD movies which are both gonna cost the consumer a great deal, and I still believe UMD's are ****ing worthless ****e. Pay more for less quality and no extras on a UMD...great.

Don't get me wrong because I don't hate sony, the PS2 won it's generation in my eyes, but I think it's someone elses time now because Sony have gotten lazy and stopped trying to do something FOR the market and are concentrating on taking control of it.

There IS room for 3 systems if they are all trying to do something clever with it, sony aren't doing jack **** in my eyes except for making it more expensive for people who have to work for a living.

The days of buying something "because it has Sony on it, so it's probably the best" are long gone now.

I also think there is a lot less "sony hating" going on than people are complaining about, it seems to me more a case of people fed up with them for some of the reasons I have posted above.

MS have listened to the complaints of their customers and corrected errors with constant updates and patches...I personally don't believe Sony will be as forthright in admitting this...MS admitted that it was something they wanted to implement but couldn't at the time, but they have now.

Honesty goes a long way with Mr Average Joe who is paying ?500 for your product.

                          Fixed.

Regardless, I don't think it's unfair at all whether it's just one division of SCEI or not. I'm not aware of any instances where Microsoft, Sega or Nintendo enforced restrictions on a game or just outright blocked it from getting a release at all in the USA or Europe simply because it was 2D.

Some games don't get released in the West for various reasons - Not good enough quality, too expensive to translate, limited audience etc. In short, when they're not financially vialble, but to block a game from being released -regardless of it's quality and potential fanbase- simply because it features 2D graphics? That's an indefensible policy.

I guess you're right, it is inexusable. It's just that thier policy has never effected me because i've only used JPN and PAL machines in the past.

I would say the reasons for the Sony hate are pretty clear to see, and could pretty much be summed up in a few lines:

                              - Sony are by far the most arrogant of the 3 console companies. Mad Ken and Super Ego Harrison regularly claim their total supremacy and put down the competition to such an extent if can't help but annoy people. Harrison famously dismissed the DS as a total non event, a gimmick, a waste of time which the PSP would flatten.

                              - Sony copy almost all pf their ideas from Nintendo and Microsoft. Yes all companies borrow and improve existing ideas, but Sony have been so blatant of late *everyone* is amazed as their ordasity.

                              - The PS3 is ridiculously overpriced. For a machine which is no more powerful than an XB360, it's pricing again reeks of Sony arrogance.

                              - Sony have very few franchises/games people truly love. They have Team ICO, who are always amazing, but little else. Nintendo have the best development and franchises in the world; can you imagine people getting excited over the annoucement of a new Gran Turismo game as they do over a new Zelda, Mario, or Metroid?

Those seem like the main reasons to me. It reminds me of the two main computer companies - Apple have legions of devoted fans, just like Nintendo. People love their products, they watch every move the company makes. But Sony are like Microsoft/Windows - big, mainstream, but nobody really cares. Weirdly Xbox 360 is somewhere in the middle, if that makes sense.

I'd agree with these statements. Microsoft are concentrating on connecting people via online with different mediums/systems i.e. mobile phones, consoles, etc, Nintendo on the other hand are taking gaming to a newer level with HCI (Human-Computer Interaction).

Sony aren't doing enough to distinguish themselves from the competition and aren't offering anything that you can't get on any other system, well apart from Blu-Ray but does anyone really care? Plus its going to cost more. Its understandable why so many people get piss off with them.

Yet saying that, gamers were pissed at Sega when they were at the top of their game, gamers were also pissed at Nintendo when they were on top. No matter who is top, there's no pleasing everybody!!
