UK Wii pre-orders Thread

They've had 160 consoles and 300 odd preorders apparently. But then again I never believe him, he could be doing it to spite me, and I'm a fool for letting him put down his Phone Number and name for my preorder, purely so he could get the rewards points.

Head out earlier! My Gamestation said they were opening the store at 11pm so there could be a big scrap for the limited games and accessories before the console sales at midnight.

Well I'm off now to the midnight launch at GameStation Poole. It's pre-orders only but I don't want to be stuck waiting in the queue too late 'cause I'm cream crackered. I'm heading into town now with my GF and we're gonna sit in the pub over the road and hang around outside as soon as anyone else turns up (unless they're there already?)

My Amazon order still says 'Dispatching Soon'.. question is have I missed their first batch or not; or even if i'll see it before Christmas

Might have to snoop around stores on the off-chance of finding a Wii early in the morning. No Midnight openers near me.

Well i have done it, reading the ASA site, it doesn't seem like the webpage is classed as an advertisement and more of a "claim on a companies website"

We shall see, trading standards is my next option.

Complaint below:

Not sure if this is a complaint for the ASA, do let me know.

It is regarding a special page on the Argos.co.uk website promoting the pre-order of the Nintendo Wii. There is a screenshot available.

The complaint is that the page is very misleading, and practically guarantees customers that by pre-ordering with Argos, you will get a Wii on launch day.

Wording like:

"only by ordering your console now can we confirm that you will get one."

"by ordering now you can relax knowing that your console is reserved, Argos will even deliver it to your home - there will (be) no hectic scramble instore to get your copy, no queuing and no waiting until midnight"

The last line about waiting until midnight is clearly suggesting that your preorder is for the day of release.

So I ordered and relaxed in the fact that my item will be with me at launch (Friday Dec 8th)

Many others spoke to Argos directly and were verbally reassured that all pre-orders would be for-filled on the 8th (source: http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/showthread...&page=55&pp=10 note. this is just one of many pages on the forum)

On 6/12/06 people started to receive automated calls either telling them they would receive the console on the 8th and others being told that they will be getting them on the 13th.

I feel that Argos should not have been so sure about their "promise" on the website. Argos takes the money direct when you pre-order, others do not. Confirming that the buyer can "relax" and then taking the funds prevents the buyer from seeking an alternate supplier.

There is no talk of "if stocks allow" or "we will do our best to ensure" all things I would have read and noted.

There are a fair amount of people who will also back up this complaint feeling that the website lead them to believe they would get a launch day delivery.

Having checked the tracking details my Wii was sorted at Parcelforce at lunchtime today, despite the fact it never "despatched" until nearer 5pm. So i wouldn't panic just yet.

My mate works at PC World in Bristol Cribbs Causeway, they got their stock yesterday, and it sounds like they got a fair wack. Think they had a lot of preorders though, but he said they have tonnes of Component cables, even offered to get one for me, but I got one on the way from JPNGames tomorrow. He should be getting me some remotes and (hopefully) a Classic controller though.

The retailer is the link between the consumer and the products. I totally agree that it may not be the fault of Argos that Nintendo let them down. But they (Argos) clearly claimed on the website that pre-orders will be for-filled on the 8th. They are a big enough retailer to know that **** happens and were foolish that have made statements like that. If Argos then want to take it up with Nintendo then that is their business.

But as a consumer of Argos, they are the people that will deal the initial complaint.

I'm not gonna go over the top with this, simply register a complaint at a misleading claim.

Hrmm... My Zelda just dispatched from Amazon, est. arrival on the 9th. Just the Wii still 'soon'.

How did you manage to track your Wii before it was 'dispatched' according to Amazon?
