Sorry to ask, but has anyone found out about any midnight launches?

I will be in London the very week it is released and desperatelt want one as soon as I can. Basically my questions are:

For midnight launches, do you still need to pre order, or is it first come first served?

What places have done midnight launches before for consoles?

Have Game ever done one before, if so which branches?

Are lines for midnight launches crazy like the japanese have been?

Are there any definite plans for HMV or Virgin to do launches? I e mailed them but got no response.

      Thankks in advance!

You can generally pick one up at a midnight launch but not always, so phone before you turn up.

Many Game stores will probably have midnight launches. My local ones didn't for the 360 but that was down to only having a few units.

UK launches are generally pretty sombre affairs. Only the really big stores like Oxford St HMV/Virgin will have a bit of a party atmosphere.

Virgin will have a midnight launch, atleast thats what someone who works there told me two days ago, dont quote me on it though. Thing about it is that they'll only get a number of units that matches their pre-order list, some fukked up ****. So practically the Wii will be sold out when they close on the 7th. If you want one from them you NEED to preorder. I would advice you to check other stores though.

And lines wont be as crazy as the japs but I'd expect them to be longer than the 360's. I think you'll be able to walk into a store on the 8th and get you unit. Just try and check local Currys/Comet/Woolworths and the like.

Anyone with a pre order from a GAME store should be guaranteed a Wii on launch day. I'd heard something about 10% of the launch allocation was being held back to be sold on the day so pre orders shouldn't be 100% of the stock and pre orders have closed where I am at least.

But those people who aren't getting the stock on midnight are just going to turn up the next day and get it anyway... is my logic wrong here?

Are GAME forcing a bundle buy of any kind?
I may source a few cheaper games elsewhere, but wont if i'm made to buy a couple with the console.
And out of interest.... who's buying anything that's not zelda at launch? I think I'm going to go with wii play too. I'll be wanting an FPS, but am tempted to wait for CoD3.
(I'm #27 at Canary Wharf GAME btw)

Zelda, Wii Play, probably Red Steel & Rayman but it really depends on reviews. I want ExciteTruck and Wario Ware but they aren't available on UK launch. I'm not 100% set on Zelda as i've never really been a fan of the series but I think it could be the epic game i've been hankering for. I'm gonna keep my ear to the ground on reviews.

I'm getting Zelda and wii sports that'll do for the time being as there's just too much 360 goodness about for anything else and Zelda will probably consume hours & hours (&hours) - wii sports for novelty and to show people as it's probably the "system seller" if I know Nintendo.

ExciteTruck & Mario are firmly on the radar as soon as they launch and I'll check out the reviews when they appear.

Got mine pre-ordered as a Christmas present.

Should be getting Zelda, Red Steel, Wii Sports and Wii Play with it.

Want other but have no idea of some release dates.

I'm not entirely sure what you're referring to, but if you've got a pre order, your console is held on one side until I believe the 11th of December (it's at least 3 days) before it would even be considered as stock to sell to a customer. What I mean is that bigger stores should be getting units that have no pre order tied to them in so people should be able to stroll in on launch day and pick one up if they're fast enough.

CoD3 appears to be a launch title. It sounds really good from the previews I've read.

Well, maybe the PAL Wii will support 480p after all.
