Can't think of another game where the 2 player isn't either direct competition or co-op.
Perfect Dark on N64 - Counter-Operative mode or something - Fantastic idea I think something similar was implemented in FSW : Ten Hammers on xbox recently but I don't know how many people actually played it - I was hoping for 360 compatability.

I also loved the shmup bits too, so yeah, in my perfect world a run and gun with the playability and style of Turrican with the odd shmup bit for me. We need more 2d gaming these days... it still has so much to offer.
Yes! I'd love a new Turrican, or something a lot like it. We've had some Metal Slugs, Alien Hominid and a couple of Contra games in the last few years, but they're not quite the same. Turrican had a bit of a metroid-style exploration vibe to it, along with some Contra/Probotector elements too; yet it didn't feel like a carbon copy of those games. Definitely could go for something along those lines. And yes, keep it 2d as well.

Wouldn't mind a new Darius game either. We've had some decent shmups in the likes of Gradius V and R-Type Final, (among oothers) but I really do miss fighting those giant mechanical space fish. Loved the designs of those bosses, and that great WARNING! message before they appear.

Yes please. I loved Rogue Leader on the GameCube for all its flaws, and I'd love to see another really good one with some nice HD graphics. That was really the last proper one besides the mediocre sequel which bogged down all the space combat with on-foot sections.

          Mmmm...

Likewise, I-War, Freespace 2 and Privateer 2 - the genre needs to be brought back.
Ahh, Freespace 2. The last great space combat sim in my opinion. I bought Darkstar One simply because there is a serious shortage of games in this genre. Turns out the game was pretty dire - repetitive gameplay and flat storyline. Wing Commander on the SNES was probably the title responsible for my interest in space sims, I never really got on with the likes of Elite.

Homeworld and its sequel were very enjoyable, but to be put back in the pilot seat of a space fighter in a decent and well-written game would be great.

last ninja should so go Metal gear style! That would aid the stealth aspect! Sigh......... those latest shots of last ninja are so............. meh....... looks like a poor mans ninja gaiden. Definatley needs to be isometric and stealth orientated!

So whaddya want, a hero biscuit? That guy was so awful, so American, so early-90s Electronic Arts, so god damn 3DO, that he ended up being cool again

I don't mean exactly like that because I don't like my games to be maddeningly, masochistically hard, but I mean that they should bring more classic franchises back with that visual style ... Fundamentally 2D gameplay with a 3D makeover.
Mate, ever since my mis-spent middle school youth spending all of my lunch money in Silver Screen video in Greenford (high five to my mate Friction), I've wished and pined for a Wardner 2. I wonder who owns the rights. It must be Taito now, right? But I heartily agree. The platformy type of game that's not as intense as a run n gun like Contra is one sub-genre that I sorely miss.

Yeh I agree. I'm one of the rare few freakish people who prefer Secret of Evermore over any of the Final Fantasy games, because I'm so much more a fan of Action RPGs than turn-based one. There are very few turn-based RPGs that I get along ok with, but I find plenty of joy in even the most average ARPG.

**** yeh! A 20 hour Wonderboy platformer action RPG would be teh sex! Kind of like Dragon's Trap, but with a bigger map and more items and puzzley bits and help I'm going to drown in my own spunk so I have to stop thinking about this. I might just go and sit in a corner and cry while rocking backwards and forwards.

I'm also down with all the Last Ninja suggestions. I will be playing through these again on a C64 or Speccy emulator on my DS forthwith. I think a 3D Last Ninja now with stealth may be a little too much compared to Metal Gear, or any of the various ninja-'em-ups we've seen over the last few years, but I'm sure a killer hook like the puzzle aspects could make it stand above even the mighty Ninja Gaiden Black. I'd also like to make an effort to get to know Dun Darach and that set of games, because they look like they were really rather good, but I simply didn't have the capacity to understand what was going on that much outside of getting increasingly lost. Perhaps some sort of remake is in order there too.
Another Magic Knight game would be lovely also! Although again one with slightly less obscure puzzles, yet without the mildly irritating hand-holding of games like Another Code. More point and clicks for DS would be lovely actually. Perhaps we will see a new Broken Sword for DS

The funny thing about the vast majority of these suggestions for remakes is the overwhelming desire among us retro lovers (perhaps this should have ended up in Retro after all!) for games that IMO would 9 times out of 10 fit absolutely perfectly on the DS, whether it be due to the touch screen or the fact that 2D seems to really belong on the system, what with so many developers misunderstanding the PSP and lumbering it with 3D PS2 downgrades. Surely that's more of an incentive for developers to try out these projects on DS, because development costs would be so minimal compared to the stupidity of PS3 and, to a lesser degree, X360.

Anyway, keep them coming, it's making for interesting reading

                  Old style platformers.

Things like Bubble Bobble, Don Doko Don, Chuckie Egg etc. Taito used to churn out classic **** in their sleep.

                  And scrolling beat em ups.

Shame how they now farm them out to developers who wouldn't know talent if it trapped them under a rainbow and burst it on them, instead insisting on churning out increasingly un-fun overcomplications of Puzzle Bobble.

                      River City Ransom!

And while where're at it, I'd die for a new RPG/Brawler Hybrid in the same vein as the abovementioned title.
Just imagine a 4-player version, where you clear the streets with your little gang (consisting of your real buddies), while playing locally or even over the net, without any slowdown (the good old nes version slowed to a crawl in multiplayer-mode). A DS version would be awesome ^_____^

I'd also like to see a new Turrican game.
Btw there's a german project, that tries to do an inofficial sequel-type thing. Here are some screens on their homepage:

Two games I would like to see remakes of are Little Big Adventure and Colonization. I enjoy Civ, but I liked the way that Colonization was more 'zoomed in' and had a proper ending and something to aim for. I was completely blown away by LBA when it first came out and played it non-stop until I completed it. Admitedly that didn't take long - it wasn't the most difficult game in the world but I loved every minute while it lasted.

it has to be action scrollers / platformers or platformers with a pinch of the old RPGs. The PSP and DS are made for things like that, as the superb Gokumakaimura, Exit, Castlevania DS, Princess Crown prove.

Games that desperately need a PSP update include the aforementioned Demons Crest/Blazon or a brand new Gargoyle game (I have pressed Capcom on this in an interview, so the seeds of that idea have been sown - fingers xxxx'd), Wonderboy, Tomba, Geomon (please give us an English version), SYmphony of The Night, and of course on the DS, Metroid. I would also love to see a PSP version, perhaps in emulation, of The Divide: Enemies Within.

I'd like to see a new JetForceGemini one of my most fav games on the N64, I always discribed it as an Zelda game with guns and mucho's action !

and I'd like to see more great looking 2D games like Ghouls 'n Ghost and Metriod/Castlevania

yeah, that would be great, Factor5 had for a long time a sort of Turrican sequal in their website, it was called Thornado... never heard anything of it ever after....

Oh, I know that Gauntlet's lost its way a little, but I'd love for someone to do a 4-player online-enabled version for DS, comprising all the original levels of 1, 2 and Deeper Dungeons, with the facility to save at the start of each level, so you could play your way through and actually try to survive the lot in solo mode, and an ending.

Remember Gribbly's Day Out, Hunter's Moon and Quedex on the C64? I'd like to see those again. They'd be perfect for the ol' GBA.
