VC games work fine for me through component too.

The NES, Megadrive and SNES VC games output at the original resolution of those systems, which was a half height progressive scan image (240p, effectively), rather than the interlaced display you get from newer systems. I'm guessing that some newer TVs just aren't expecting that sort of image from a component input.

If you run a VC game and hit the home button, does the display come back briefly? The Wii switches back into its usual display mode as it fades in the home menu.

Finger hovering over the 3rd party cable on Play-asia but I know I'll probably end up with both at once...

Yes neither have I probably the same guy as I already have a proper one on order from woolies I have been trying not to order yet another one and ending up with 3. I was hoping to get it by chrstmas as I have been hplding off playing zelda until the lead arrives.

I've just discovered exactly the same problem. I'm annoyed that I've paid for the games rather than simply playing them on my Xbox or PC for free only to find they don't work. Perhaps I shouldn't have such moral standards with regards to future NES and SNES VC re-releases.

Hi JamesS (Sutherland?), are you using an official cable? Could the problems that people are having be down to using third party cables? Is anyone with an official cable having any problems?

Got my Gameplay cable yesterday (Cheers Lyris!) and while things aren't amazingly different there is a definite improvement in colours and clarity on my 26" Samsung LCD.

It's most noticable for me on Mario64 as the colours look a lot sharper now. Only two days until I can play Zelda in Component sharpness now

Maybe it's just Doney Kong Country then ?

it's a problem with the resume feature, on certain games, with component.

I'm using a Game own brand cable. It's hard to imagine how third party leads could be wired any differently, though. Unlike Gamecube component leads, there's nothing much to a Wii one.

I really do think it's likely to be that the TV just doesn't like low res through component. Some people had similar problems running PS1 games (and ICO, come to that) through component on PS2, as they run in the same non-interlaced low res mode.

I didn't think it was the case. Just wishful thinking on my part that I could cure the problem with a different cable.

I'd completely forgotten about it, but I also have the Ico problem so I think you're right.

Is there any way to confirm via the Wii what it's outputting (480p, 480i etc.) On one of my HD-TV's the image is noticeably sharper, so I'm wondering whether the other one is not outputting at 480p. Can't find anything on the TV to tell me.

There is usually a screen on most tv's that tells you Jurassic. What tv you got?

I'm using official component cables and Donkey Kong Country works great for me still. Console is set to 480p.

Nothing fancy both Goodmans. One will tell me it's outputting 480p when I change channel, this one has a sharper image. The other is a Goodmans LC2701 can't find anything to tell me what it's outputting. I know it'll do progressive scan because I've got my 360 running in hi def on it through vga.

Hmm. Not familiar with them myself but I'm sure someone on here will be. I would imagine if its not obvious where to find that info it will be buried in one of the setup menus.

Yeah I'm sure it'll be somewhere but I thought the Wii might tell you itself. I'll have a dig around in the TV menu's. Thanks Blair
