It will go to console that is dominant on Japan.

I dont think it's quite as blunt as that - the people who make the game will want a fitting canvas for it. The DS is a fine machine but not properly suited to epics like (main series) Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.

Actually, it is as blunt as that. What you said was contradicted by the fact that DQIX is going on DS.

But when it comes to DQIX I expect it to go to a next gen console (Most likely Wii if it sells aswell as the DS has)

How is the ds not suited to epics, they had no problems putting dragons quest on the famicom & super famicom, Same with final fantasy. From the video so far it looks pretty good.

This time it means we can enjoy the game without 10 hours of fmv cutscenes, we managed back in the snes days (^_^)

            Quoted for truth.

FFVII sure has a lot to answer for......

Yeah, because games with stories are so bad

I think cut scenes can hugely enhance a game, and do so in the case of the Final Fantasy games from VII onwards. But that's not the only reason I would not want Final Fantasy XIV to be on a handheld - I do not think the battle system could be implemented fully, especially those elements depending on time, and the impression of a vast world to explore could not be created so well.

Some types of RPG work better on a handheld/ retro console - Advance Wars and Fire Emblem (I know the Gamecube version of AW was trying something different) - some are better suited to contemporary consoles.

The trailer for Dragon Quest IX on DS looks stunning. It's a bold decision to move the core game away from one of the main home consoles but with a 2007 release date, Level 5 and SE have to be developing for a current gen machine and with over 7 Million DS's sold in Japan the choice is actually very logical.

                    I personally can't wait!

Not only that, but the gameplay is veering off entirely too, judging by the video. I hope it feels like DQIX and not just a spin-off.

Will this one ever make a US/UK release? I am not able to play RPG's without English. (The days of me having enough patience to try each option are long gone...)

Most likely, I think DQVIII sold decently well in the states, but I am not sure about here. Time will tell, but I am sure they will try atleast do a US release

I guess it makes sense to put it on the DS. The system is wildly popular in Japan, and of the consoles that will be around in a couple of years time it definitely has the strongest user base. I also can't really see how much the PS3 would add to the whole experience. From a graphical point of view I honestly can't see the graphics improving much upon what was found in DQVIII - and the gameplay wasn't far removed from it's NES prequels.

I'm not overly keen on what I've seen so far. I enjoyed DQVIII but thought it inferior to DQVII. A return to the classic overhead gameplay would have done nicely. Hopefully the job system will also make a return.

I'll be intrigued to see how much they charge for the game over there in Japan. DQVIII retailed for 9280 Yen (as opposed to the usual 6800 Yen for your average PS2 game) and still sold some 3 million copies. Would 7800 Yen be too much for a handeld game?

Err, oops. Didn't see the FMV part, thought everyone hated cutscenes full stop

According to www.the-magicbox.com this is going to be a multi-player action rpg - so not really Dragon Quest proper.
