Has there really been no news on this for two years!?

Anyway, release date in Japan: March 28th.

But that's not the big news, oh no.

OH MY GOD. I don't want a DSi, but I almost want one just to put that case on it

        oddly inactive thread.

There's been some questionable news with the game.

Apparently rather than being linear, you get a load of MMO style quests. Kill 10 monsters, fetch something for someone etc.

Probably to make the game more suitable for online multiplayer but you play DQ games because they're very traditional rpgs, not because they're another damn sandbox game.

I'm not actually all that buzzed about this. The online part of this looks like it will cause the story to suffer, I'm not even sure if you have non-custom characters in your party

Delayed? Oh well, we still have the DQ (5 is it?) game due this quarter (or this month in the states) to keep us satisfied before then.

Edit: 5 is apparently due over here too by the end of the month.

anyone know if they've cut huge swathes of dialogue again (they cut something like 50% from the last one)?

No the part talk system has been left intact this time so no worries.

more pics. Not amazingly impressed, all NPCs are sprites but you're cell shaded 3d, could really take you out of the game. Not sure about the heavy focus on multiplayer either. Aren't DQ titles supposed to be THE core rpg series?

Lengthy trailer that goes into detail about how it plays.

Looks incredibly impressive now, probably the best looking game on the DS. You have the option of creating your own party if you don't want to play wifi. I'm not sure if that's weapon skills you allocate after the battle or stat points. The devs need to be careful people don't created the dreaded tank mage.

                            I wish I hadn't watched that. I'm dangerously close to a pre-order of a game I can't possibly play.

Confirmed local Wifi multiplayer only. No internet play for you!

Given the number of people I know who like RPGs this probably means the multiplayer side of things well get used by me approx. 0 times (rounded to 5 significant figures). Still, at least you're free to create an entire party.

Apparently this will be the hardest Dragon Quest ever according to Yuji Horii. Could just be hype though to try to appease the hardcore fans.

Dhoulmagus in DQVIII was an insane difficulty spike and not all that fun, I'm hoping they won't consistently go that extreme.
