Gran Turismo HD Concept - PS3

I?m loving this GTHD Concept! What a great package and it?s free!

You only get one track but you also get to do it in reversed as well. There are 10 cars to choose from including the Toyota Celica GT Four Rally Car 95 (as featured in the original SEGA Rally), a Lotus Elise 11R ?04, a Ferrari 599 ?06 (yes they FINALLY have the Ferrari license now!) and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX GSR ?05. Also out of the 10 cars you can choose them again but tuned up as well!

There are online rankings where you can also download any of the top 5 replays for which ever ranking you are viewing respectively.

After trying all the cars I?ve set my sights on just mainly using the "Tuned" Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX GSR ?05, my Traction Control is set to 0 and Stability Manager is off (turn all the assists off and it?s a different game because you get total control over your car, it's harder at first but more fun and rewarding). I can?t wait till the rankings start to open up, I?m already ranked 8th on the Tuned Evo ?05 leader board! I bet I'll be 100th plus when I wake up in the morning though.

The graphics are mint considering it?s the GT4 game engine running in proper HD! So having said that I can?t wait to see what GT5 will look like! It runs at 60 FPS in game but the replays run at 30FPS (but if you watch the replays in first person car view it is still at 60FPS for some reason?weird)

Thumbs up all around from me! Nice one Polyphony for this nice little package.

The leader boards are a good addition, other than that it's the same old GT, so you know what to expect. Managed to get into the top 200 with the Ferrari, but I suspect that's due to the lack of people playing it. Tip: turn off the traction control.

The ranking system is very limited though, there doesn't appear to be a way of viewing anything other than the top 10 times. So you can't see who's above and below you, and you can't compare friends times. It also looks like they're broken as there are times in the top ten that are impossibly low with replays showing half completed laps ( you can watch the top 5 times in replay ).

The track is decent, definitely worth the d/l given it's free, but it's not going to blow you away graphically ( the mountains, wtf? ). If it looked like the replays that would be something else, they do look great.

The drift mode is a bit gimmicky, but the cars handle as you'd expect ( ie, just as they did in other GT games ).

    It's a nice Christmas present.

How do you access the drift mode? I downloaded the Japanese version so I'm a bit lost with the text

You have to unlock all the cars in the Time Trail mode first (by beating the suggested time limit for that car - which you should be able to do on the first lap for all of them).

I don't think this looks that fantastic tbh.

In gameplay, I'm running this at 1080P, and there's jaggies everywhere. Fortunately, if you sit at a fair distance away, they're miniscule due to the high res, but close up they stand out like a sore thumb. It's nice that it runs at 60FPS, but due to the lack of additional camera motion (like in PGR's cockpit view) or motion blur, it 'feels' less realistic. The characters stood around the track look really artificial, which doesn't help.

It's certainly nice in motion - 60FPS feels so smooooth - but stop your car and things aren't so pretty. Replays are really nice - hence the nice screencaps in this thread - but then that's running at half the framerate, so what do you expect?

It's the usual GT formula of really impressive replays next to uglier in-game graphics. At least PGR3 got rid of this - both looked as good and the only time it 'cheated' was in photo-mode (an extra dollop of AA on top, thankyou very much). Back to the PS3, I don't care about the 1080P resolution, aesthetics-wise Motorstorm gives this a good beating (as does PGR, imho).

Gameplay-wise, same old GT. Nothing new to see here, imo, bar some added momentum. I'll have to play some more to really make my mind up though (only have the first three cars so far).

What I mean is they do considering it's the GT 4 engine running in HD. C'mon it's free and it still looks better than a lot of the next gen racers out at the moment, plus it's 60 FPS!

If it was GT5 then yeah I'd be dissapointed.

              Point made! It's a pity there's a complete absence of anti-aliasing though, considering it's a spruced up last-gen game...

True. I mean the PS3 could do it easily! When you watch the HD movies from the PS store they have no aliasing what so ever, but the lack of anti-aliasing in this final build was the first thing I noticed when I got going.

This seems to happen in a lot of next gen games. I remember when I first saw a movie of PGR3 which had no aliasing but the final version did.

Managed to get #8 spot in the tuned reversed rankings with the Infiniti G35 Coupe - so there must be even less people trying that one ( get in while you can )

I wish I could join the racing action. It does sound quite good, nothing amazing, but obviously enjoyable!

Maybe the Pal PS3 will come with this pre-installed!

It's ok, I can see why it's free though, still a nice small present for early adopters like myself

                        Happy Xmas

Yeah, I've done that. Is the option available before you start a race on the menu? And if so which option is it?

Sigh, just got 20th on TT with Celica and checked the top 5.......reliased now about the Tunnel bus so at LEAST the top 5 are cheating

Sorry if peeps dont know their is a glitch with people exiting before or in the tunnel so it can cut 20 seconds off the time as it counts this as race end!

If they fix the cheat I would play this all day long though

The problem is, what started as a couple of people who genuinely screwed up their runs and were just trying to exit the game is now just going to be a load of people doing this on purpose to try and get themselves to the top of the rankings. Hopefully Sony will sort this out pronto.
