I was going to mention Double Switch (the Sega CD/Mega CD...oh, and SEGA Saturn as well) game (which I and three others worldwide quite liked), also did the same - but then, it sold all of perhaps 200 copies so it isn't relevant. In the opening you could clearly hear the 'Basmalah'.

I actually found it intriguing and, honestly, as a kid very aware of being a minority, quite cool. The same way many of us growing up felt 'included' when we we heard Qur'anic verse or references to it in the hiphop we listened to - and no one really minded, because even if we did find it inappropriate, we knew it wasn't deliberately offensive. Frankly, most would be bemused, and amused, above anything else.

Well im sorry ive upset you on a personal level id-republix, i just have an intolerance for all religions in almost all forms, i just see them as outdated and archaic ridged systems that shouldn't really have a place anymore.

As you say were all the same and we can all think for ourselves, while some religions have good ideas on how to treat your fellow man, no one should really need them to live their daily life.

While i wont back down on my view and opinions on religion (we can talk further about it by pm or another thread if you wish) i apologize for overreacting.

You did not upset me on a personal level. Nor did you express a disagreement or intolerance for Islam. You attacked all Muslims. You extended your hate for religion to actual people.

Nor is this a thread on a religion, so whether religions have good ideas on "how to treat fellow man" is off-topic.

I won't flame you for changing your tune, but the truth is, you attacked and insulted all Muslims, and without basis. Your reaction and reactions like yours are far more 'extremist' and hateful than anything Muslims in general have had to say on this matter. Perhaps think about that.

Incidentally, statements like yours are hardly in order with 'good ideas on how to treat your fellow man'.

Muslims aren't a "race". Let's not mix up religion and ethnicity. Otherwise being critical about a religion would make you racist which surely isn't the case.

Let's not nitpick on terms. You know he clearly meant 'group', used the wrong word, and was referring to attacks on Muslims as a group, not criticism of Islam as a religion, which was not being discussed here. And he has a very valid point.

Even on relatively sober boards like NTSC-UK, when something regards Muslims comes up, the negative, obfuscating, hateful comments have sadly come to be common fare.

Right just cancelled my order on Movietyme. I'd be buggered, they gave me store credit even though i paid by debit card. Luckily i was thinking of getting Far Cry 2 anyway and used it on that. But still! >_<

They didnt pull RFOM with the cathedral battle. Im a christian and I say blow all aliens to hell The music track has been part of domain for over 2yrs I find it sad that people in this world are so hyper sensitive its a lovely little game and it had a patch ready for day 1 to stop this nonsense but no we have to have a mass outrage over it. Sit back and fiddle with sack boy instead.

I find it both interesting and quite disturbing when people say things like religion has no place in modern society when religion is root of law and living in general, do you really think they are pointless and worthless? Its a bit like saying the sun is pointless after we work out how to grow food without using the suns energy.. or Alessandro Volta is pointless now he has shown us how to harness electricity..

Educated (so called) people say I hate religion way to openly these days yet you don't see as many educated people saying I hate people who don't have religion. Its a 2 way street and sometimes its best that people keep their opinions to themselves if all their going to do is post them expecting others to agree with them.

peace & respect to everyone please

The thing is, there hasn't been any such mass outrage.

Really, the only prominent outrage has been from knee-jerk reactions that can be summed up to 'oh no, those oversensitive hypocrite Muslims again'.

There are Muslims on this board just as there are others. Were we such a rabid lot as we are being depicted as, one of us surely would have been frothing at the mouth condemning this business as willful desecration of the Qur'an - and made threads with posts as vile and hateful as some of those on this very thread about us.

Have we? I don't think so, no.

In fact, there was far more outrage from 'free speech warrior' internet denizens at the protest of the literal handful of Muslim organizations that condemned 'Muslim Massacre' than there ever has been from actual Muslims - and this a game openly perpetrating our genocide, and whose creator says its intention matches the game's direction, and that his apology for it was 'false'.

As for the cathedral in R:FoM, I certainly don't think it was right, at all - any more than the constant depiction of Muslim lands and places of worship as destroyed battlefields for the hallowed American solider to prove his imperialist mettle in Sevret Level and UbiSoft's many quaint, lovely war games. I personally felt very uncomfortable playing and trodding about the depiction of such a respected place of worship in tatters.

No the game got pulled because a person and his friends of x religion got upset over a music track that had been out for over 2yrs and posted this on the forum that "consider the mixing of music and words from our Holy Quran deeply offending" which I find strange when its a old music track and then what followed was plenty of forums of a certain religon not being very happy about it to say the least. Sony cant do anything else in this situation but to either pull it or patch it. Their has been some serious hypersensitivity over things like this recently and Im sure nobody would want the situation like what happened with the cartoons to come about again (which is a bad comparision I guess as it was offensive but if a certain group takes this offensive they can use this as a excuse).

I really find it a sad world we live in nowadays that we cant even mention religion. I dont care what you are who you are or what colour you are simple as that all live in harmony.

The original letter asked for its removal very respectfully.
The comparison with Resistance is quite good but, imo, not quite the same. Resistance was made with full knowledge of the team of that level - it is integral to the game and was made, presumably, with quite a few christians on the team and, at the very least, everyone fully aware of christianity.
I don't know the religious makeup of Mm but the music is hardly integral and can be removed easily without a fundamental change in the game. No problem.

Terrorism by religious fanatics is not new. As a londoner, I have lived through the christian bombings of the 80s and 90s [not before - wasn't born then!] and the islamic bombings of 00s.

Culture is always censored but usually it is "censored" at source as the designer just does not put outlandish ideas in cos they are aware (at points) it would be offensive - self censorship. I doubt, looking at Mm, they would put anything in knowingly offensive. kudos to them.
The whole concept of the game is inclusiveness!

Anyone else think it was extremely irresponsible of whoever it was to make this letter public? It is aggravating a much larger issue than a videogame. Not to mention that they put it on the internet with the guy's PSN id there for all to see - it's not only irresponsible, it's downright suspicious!
