    firmware

    I get mine from here
http://www.us.playstation.com/ps3/network/updates seems to be the quickest to download
    PS3の最新システムソフトウェアアップデートがご利用いただけます。

    The slowest
I think this is the page you were on and it's the right one go down till you see the pictures of how to put the update on the sd card underneath that there is a large button that will give you the update
I seem to have the same problem you do it never manages to update though the internet so i have to use a sd card

Cheers guys. I thought that the firmware was different for each region. That worked a treat.

I've heard the firmware update is intended to resolve Warhawk issues (ps3 acting as a server i guess). Let's hope so!

No official (Or unofficial) indication of what's included, but yeah I've heard it resolves some Warhawk issues too. Info should appear here at some point.

EDIT: Performance tweaks and PS2 compatibility.

The images/clips on the XMB are loaded a lot quicker now and people are reporting that flash is better supported while online and and that wallpaper in that format can now be used.

              Dancing chickens/cats/squirrels/etc for everybody then...

It seems to have sorted out a few issues with item labelling that Russian language users were having to.

What's the odds on this being a flash based download?

The latest version update (1.92) killed my PS3 yesterday. I installed it a few days before that. I was playing FFXI on my USA PS3 and suddenly I get this weird flashing screen, unable to see anything so I turned off my PS3.

When I wanted to restart the PS3, it would start up like it normally does for 2 seconds or so, then the sound would die down. I don't even get to the PS3 menu.

Anybody seen this problem before and know how to fix it? Can the PS3 be reset in any way (so I can go back to the original 1.5 firmware that was on it)? Would removing the HDD and replacing it with a new one help any to fix this firmware issue? Or removing it and formatting it on the PC (no clue how that works but it can be done right?)

I contacted Sony Europe earlier, they never heard of the problem and of course can't do anything because a USA PS3 isn't covered by the warranty.

If all fails, would any of you know a trustworthy company to which I could send my PS3 to have it fixed?

I want to get this fixed, because I don't want to buy a new one and run into the same problem again with 1.92 and want to know for when Sony messes up one of their updates in the future again.

Thanks in advance for any information.

No. It appears stuff like that, and your PSN accounts etc are stored internally, not on the HDD. I fitted a new hard drive in mine a few days ago and the firmware was unchanged.

have you tried holding power for five seconds when you turn it on?

I can't see how it'd kill the machine unless the firmware update was unsuccesful

Yes, I tried that when the guy I had on the phone from Sony Europe suggested that, I was supposed to get visual according to him on either the HDMI or AV channel, I got it on neither. The LED remains green though.

And I don't think the firmware update was unsuccesful since I used the PS3 a few times between downloading 1.92 and it screwing up.

Thanks for the fast replies =)
