I just tried out the PS1/2 upscaling.... maybe I'm just completely wrong, but I swear it looks better than it used to! I didn't like it at all when it came out, but I just tried Tomb Raider PS1 and it looks real clear.
It used to clip the side in KH2 too, and now no longer does, so something must be tweaked.Last edited by sj33; 14-09-2007, 15:21.

Originally posted by KotakuOkay! Just downloaded the 2.17 Firmware, and nothing major jumped out at me update-wise. Though, this is interesting: There was a message saying, "Sorry, Japanese Language Only" and told me to change the English setting to Japanese. What's more, this very well could be to prevent people living outside Japan from having Japanese accounts. Or even prevent those living in Japan from having an English language one. That is, unless I've totally missed something, this is the first time my PS3 has told me it was "Japanese Only." Perhaps this update is laying the groundwork for something much bigger. Perhaps it merely hates English. Dunno!
Just changed it back to English, and it works no prob so NO FREAKING OUT. Still, that was kinda strange!

Apparently one can install PS2 software to the HDD too with 2.17 according to Japan's PS site.
Will investigate...
[EDIT] No. They're talking about installing PS2 games that can be installed. i.e Final Fantasy XILast edited by hudson; 13-03-2008, 12:34.

That's strange as you were able to do that before. There was a download for PS2 games that needed a hdd install just after launch in the US and in Japan.
Maybe it was just sorting out bugs for that release though?
EDIT:
Just had a look and the PS2 hdd update was included in the 1.31 firmware.

It's only for the ticker that the language must be set to Japanese.
I've been waiting for a PS2-installer for ages now. Up until now only
FF11 and Nobunga's Ambition were supported.Last edited by J0e Musashi; 14-03-2008, 07:59.Kept you waiting, huh?

PS3 2.17 update information (seeing as it seems nobody understands what it's for)
The install PS2 games thing included in 2.17 is for use with certain Japan-only games that could be installed to the official SCEI external or internal PS2 HDD in order to reduce load times, and in some cases direct saving to the HDD. (There are 8 games that work like this in the US). It cannot be used to copy an entire PS2 title to the HDD and play it without the disc.
Until now, only FFIX and Nobunga's Ambition Online were supported in this way as there was the PS2 System Data download available for D/L from the PSN since launch. Now any game that could be installed will work.
Ace Combat 04
Auto Modellista
FFX:International
Zettai Zetsumei Toshi
Capcom VS SNK 2
SF Zero Fighters Generations
Soul Caliber 2
are Japanese games I know that take advantage of the install. There are probably others, but I only have these ones.
I'm almost certain it is of no use whatsoever to PAL users unless FFIX was released here. All of the above games had HDD support removed for the PAL release, with only SF Alpha Anthology retaining it for it's US release.Last edited by J0e Musashi; 14-03-2008, 12:13.Kept you waiting, huh?

They've improved the backwards compatability too, Manhunt never used to load then in the last update it loaded but the screen would be black when starting the game and now its fully playable so far.
Edit - Thats really weird I wanted to do the first kill again to show my brother so I quit the game and loaded it back up and I'm just getting the black screen with fuzzy lines again once it gets to ingame.Last edited by Myth; 14-03-2008, 19:52.
