So is it supposed to be caching the images for the store to the HDD?

The images are loading slower than a very slow thing which is moving very slowly. I hope it doesn't do this every time you enter the store?

Lovely design though.

edit: oddly the US store seems to be running loads faster than the European one

edit 2: blimey it's got a different set of categories and slightly different layout too. You think they'd use the opportunity to standardise them

I went onto the UK and US stores last night and had the same slow images issue. US did seem faster at first but pretty much had the the same problem after a couple of minutes.

I put it down to a problem on my connection as the XBL Marketplace has been having similar issues since the problems at Xmas.

Japanese store seems fine. So much easier to navigate

The speed seems to vary for me and the JP stuff seems almost instant but it is supposed to be faster than it is and should be dealt with shortly.

So, now the PS3 plays Divx and stuff (which I am happily streaming from my PC) what are the odds of Sony updating the firmware to support .mkv files?

Would certainly help as the anime I download tends to be .mkv based.

2.35 out now, just updated, store seems to load all the images but that might just be my bandwidth, anyone got a specific list of additions/fixes as usual? I know as such they only said it was for ps3 compat. but hey.

as far as I'm aware 2.35 contains system stability fixes but none for GTA4. Thats it.. which is a little weak as I hate having to do these updates over such transparent matters.

Find out what features are included in PS3 system software update 2.35.
An update to the PS3 system software was released on May 15, 2008. If you update your PS3 system, the system software version will be 2.35 and the following features will be updated. In order to download PS3 system software version 2.35, you will need a minimum 130Mb of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).
Main features in system software update version 2.35

• System stability during use of some PLAYSTATION 3 format software has been improved.

Note:

• This system software update includes all features contained in previous versions.
• The new system software will preserve any settings previously made to the PLAYSTATION 3. Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first updating the PS3 system software.
• Do not perform updates using any data other than the official update data provided by Sony Computer Entertainment over a network or on disc media, and do not perform updates by methods other than those described in the product documentation or in this site. If an update is performed using data from another source, by another method, or with a PS3 system that has been altered or modified in any way, the PS3 system may not operate properly and may not be able to install the official update data. Any of these actions may void the PS3 system warranty and affect your ability to obtain warranty services and repair services from Sony Computer Entertainment.

They did also state that is doesn't contain the the upcoming patch for GTA.

It's fairly standard practice to not give any details for updates which are classed as amendments as this is. There should always be details published of the major & minor updates though.

For the people who are able to it's worth getting out those PS2 games that didn't work before as they tend to sneak additional compatibility in releases even if they are amendments like this one.

Just switched PS3 on to download Dark Mist, forgot about the firmware update. Over 15 minutes to download and install (on a 4mb line), can't tell me this update is more than say a handful of mb, so why-o-why does it always take so long

It's slow because it's free apparently. I say charge me for a better service.

Best way to update is to get it off the PC and pop it on usb stick. They are usually 130Mb. i don't see why they need to be that big though.
