I got my first 360 in October 2006.

Around early Decemember I started getting 3 red lights, but after 10-20 retrys it would come on.

It died on Christmas Eve. It would eventually come on again but this time the drive wouldn't open.

Got a replacement on Boxing Day - working, but for how long?

If this one breaks I may give it another go...but if a 3rd goes, then I give up on the 360. I have lost confidence.

Had NES, SNES, Game Gear, GameBoy, GBC, GBA, GP32, Dreamcast, PS1, XBOX, N64, PS2, GAMECUBE and not one thing has failed on any of them...even after all these years.

I've got a Wii on order from VG+ but for my 'standard' needs, it looks like PS3 is going to be my machine - which is a shame since I love the 360. If a 3rd one breaks before the PS3 launch I'm just gonna flash a 4th and not pay for games Only kidding...

After I posted last night about my machine failing, I was able to put in a few hours of Tomb Raider without any problems. This morning it seems to be crashing non-stop again but I'm still not getting any error lights...

Edit - typical! Just got the 3 lights of doom

Any chance of still getting this one on warrenty?

Hmm... 360, playing TDU, had some graphical issues today and sent the TV into Spectrum crash mode before it decided there wasn't a signal and switched itself off. The 360 was still going mind and pressing "go to the dash now" seemed to 'fix' it but, and here's where I start to worry, the missus says, "Oh, Oblivion did that the other day" I've not had ten minutes and the thing is playing up? It stopped doing the random graphics thing anyway, played for a couple of hours. Only Oblivion has crashed on me, but that's specific to that game (the PC one is always falling over too) so never thought about it but the graphics thing is new and for a couple of games to do it seems more than a coincidence.

Not like I can do anything about it like but i just thought I'd take five minute to moan about it on the Interweb, you know?

Exactly the same as what mine did the other night, only difference is I still can't get a picture - TV is still saying there is no signal although I can hear everything fine!

                  Out of warranty too.

I wish there was a way to make the damn thing quieter! Preferably without voiding the warranty. It sounds like it's going to take off when playing Viva Pinata...

As a consequence of the noise I have to have the TV volume turned up higher or else you can't make out speech over the racket.

The 360, great console that it is, must be the ****tiest built console ever manufactured. I have never seen so many consoles go tits up in the first year!

7 days my box has been with them and after calling MS, they still haven't looked at it. Glad I'm paying for such an efficient service

After a bit of a moan about paying for such a fantastic service apparently its been escalated and should be next on the list (yeah right). I now have the luxury of calling them tomorrow to see whats going on

All was well until this Jan 9th update and now I have freezes and checkerboard pattern -

I have painted my console so I'm absolutely out in the cold as far as getting it serviced (a risk I knew, but if a software upgrade caused this, I'll be livered).

The 360 had a late launch in Australia and New Zealand which I was sure would be a positive thing, but I was alarmed at the failure rate that materialised. NZ is a very small population (4 million), yet I've witnessed a very very high rate of complaints about failed units.

Mine is an import US machine which makes it even harder to stomach that the above symptom is more than likely terminal.

Disappointed, disillusioned and very much concerned for the future of these early units. I don't think we will see many version 1.0 360's lasting long and healthy lives. It seems the units are ticking time-bombs and if stress doesn't brick them, the constant agitation of dashboard upgrades will.

                              Hold on to those warranties.

My launch day one died this week. Doubt I have even got 50 hours use out of it as it was a bit of an impulse buy. Worked out its better to strip the parts and sell them on than pay MS £70 to fix it and risk gettin a refurb back
