Any chance of showing us where you got that 50% figure from?

From what I've read the consoles that break more than once are down to the same basic design faults in the machine rather than anything that was changed when it was getting repaired by Microsoft.

Didn't Robbie Bach state that it was a "design issue" with the 360s which will be addressed? So unless Microsoft or any of the other companies who are repairing them are reworking the internal layout and changing the hardware which is faulty then these design issues are surely going to stay design issues?

OK so after my console being away since 6th July now I have just called them to find out where it is.

Guess what - they dont know. I will get a call back within 48hours to tell me when I can expect it.

Nick - Why did they refuse to fix your console?

They're going to repair the console. I just want to check if anyone knows what the scratches look like with this problem?

Mine are between 2-10mm in length and in multiple positions, all running around the disc, but not continuous. I.e. they are running in a circular shape, but not all the way around the disc.

Could it be that some dust got inside the machine and that is what caused the scratches? Just a bit reluctant to send the machine into the abyss, given the length of time it apparently takes to be fixed.

They've also stressed that the game disc will only be replaced if I pay ?10 for postage. I told them that that's what I paid for the game in the first place and was unimpressed by this "policy" which was designed to relieve this difficulty.

I noticed this post from Jay:

        Little help?
No problem. What do you want to know?

My argument with them was that as they had *confirmed* that the drive was faulty, ergo their faulty machine was responsible for scratching my discs, they were liable. Took a *lot* of arguing but they replaced the game eventually. My advice would be to not give up. *Their* badly designed machine damaged *your* goods. They are liable.

PM me if you need more information. I'm happy to provide anything you need. Nobody should have to put up with the treatment MS are expecting their customers to take.

          That's terrible!!!

To be honest, if I was you I'd sort of be hoping that they've managed to lose it so you can kick up a fuss just after the Elite is released and hope that you get lucky!

Well thats just great - I got my 360 last friday and already I have disk read errors on two new games (gears and forza). Im going to kick up a fuss tomorrow at GAME. What do you think my chances are getting it swapped for credit and then pay the extra £50 for the elite next week?

Wait, last year when I had to return my 360 twice they came back usually within a week. Are you telling me that it takes around a month now?! My brother and a friend are going to uni in September and we need to complete Marvel UA

I think mine was about a week just after launch when my hdd seemed to just die for some reason.

A month seems pretty normal now though...

Damn I should have sent it off for repair when it broke around 5 weeks ago... Guess I can't play Bioshock and Blue Dragon on release, which is my birthday

They wouldn't touch it, as it's a US model.

360repair was my only option, as i wasn't going to send it to MS USA.

The arguments i had on the phone with the so called 'managers' were hilarious, in hindsight.

'If your NTSC console plays PAL games, you must have had it modified' etc etc....

Total ****ing dimwits, i would rather the ?50 go to the little guy now.

And Robbie, don't wait for them to call you back, as they won't. I waited 6 days, and nothing. Ended up calling them.

Weird, they fixed my Japanese model without question and didn't even mention the region issue at all - they sent me back a Japanese one as well (had NTSC-J in big letters).

It's really up to the manager or whatever. You won't have any problems getting another premium, though. HMV replaced mine after six and then 18 months from my original purchase.

As regards the disc read error: are there any scratches on the discs?

                            Yeah , it is weird.

I have a US console Nick and they take it back every time without any probs. I think its just your luck who you get on the phone.

I always get a US 360 back too(maybe thats the delay this time)

I think I will phone them today tho....

I have two US 360's, and have rung them 4 times, one for each before the extended warranty, and again with the extended warranty. Spoke to 4 different people, and they all said no.

I posted on here asking for people who had had NTSC consoles fixed, so i had a bit of ammunition, and no one replied, so i thought it wasn't just me, they weren't fixing any.
