    It's definitely a lottery with the 360's:
I've got a Sammy drive 360, and a Hitachi drive one as well - the Sammy won't load the individual levels on halo 3 from around lvls 4-7, the Hitachi runs Halo perfectly (and is a damn sight quieter). With PDZ the reverse is true - the Sammy runs it perfectly, the Hit. jitters on some levels....

Very interesting Danny... So it seems like it's not just drives but discs as well.... Hmm... MUST borrow my mates copy of PDZ now!

        Jesus.

I've had my repaired 360 back no longer than a month and already it's knackered. Turned it on for a go today and no picture through either VGA or scart. Rang customer support and before I knew it I was giving my details for a console repair.

I kicked up a wee fuss as it's the second time it's borked, and after offering me a list of frankly **** games worth bugger all, we eventually settled on a wireless controller. Which I look forward to using with my copy of VF5 that I still haven't got the chance to bloody play. I was enjoying the orange box so darned much too...

        Honestly, it's disgraceful.

Update on my machine that wouldn't play my copy of Perfect Dark Zero - that I had already played through to completion on my old machine.

Got back from my mate's today and borrowed his copy of the game. Got home, booted it up, mission one loaded perfectly first time, played through that, and mission two was fine as well. No DRE, not probs, no nothing, just perfect gaming as expected?

So for some bizarre reason my machine just doesn't like my old copy?!

Thinking about it mate, my launch US 360 decided one day to stop playing my launch US Ridge Racer, out of the blue.

Sold RR on here, bought a new copy, hey presto.

Maybe it's a new way of getting our pennies.

Hmm very odd, certainly seems that way? Maybe it's something to do with the updates or something for the system we get?

No idea, either way I can play PDZ again so that makes me happy

I got a HDMI 360 recentley, hooked it up to my LCD monitor via a HDMI lead & a DVI adapter, then in order to get sound I hooked up a scart lead to the scart port (I cut off some of the outer casing so it would fit good) but only plugged in the L & R leads for sound.
I've suddenly noticed that when I turn on my 360 it takes a while for the start up logo to appear. The console is on & all the lights for the load up are working on the console, but it takes a good 20 secs minimum for the 360 screen to appear.
Do u think its got anything to do with me hooking up 2 cables eventhough only 1 is actually connected to a visual device the other end?

Just a guess, but yeh i'd say thats likely. I'm sure you have your reasons, but surely you'd achieve the exact same end result using the VGA cable?

Well there's rather obvious way to test if it the source of the problem isn't there?

It could be another lousy design feature of the XB360 but it shouldn't have any effect at all if you're only using it for audio output. So my guess would be that it isn't.

I have a GC connected via the official Nintendo component cable to my TV but thanks to the wallies un the design dept. not including L/R audio output have to use a SCART cable with AV block for that. Makes not a jot of difference to the GC's start up time.

The question is why have you gone for that solution. Why not use a proper XB360 VGA cable, which includes audio out leads, and a DVI adapter?

Thats something the new version consoles do, both over VGA and HDMI, if they don't receive the correct signal back from the display they take ages to boot up.

The reason why I'm using a HDMI lead with a DVI connector is because I wanted to see if if would give me a better quality picture (especially for 1st person shooters) over my VGA lead.
The answer is YES it does give a better clearer picture as I found out when I played COD 2 online. I could see further into the distance than before due to the picture being clearer. I managed to spot & pop off other players who were far away but using the shadows which is something I couldnt do before, so the picture quality is better.

As my HDMI lead didnt come with an AV cable for sound I went out & bought 1 of those Gamester Scart/S-Video/AV leads from Argos for £3. I had to cut off the edge of the case surrounding the connection but it fits fine now.

To dittley & fallenangle: I spoke to a few of u guys on here a while back & was told that using a VGA to DVI adapter would not improve the quality, it would just allow for VGA picture quality thru my DVI connection so that would have been a waste of time.

                          1. Sign into Xbox Live.
                          2. Go to the marketplace blade.
                          3. Select "Account Management".
                          4. Select "Download History".
                          5. Find the "Full Game" of whichever XBLA title and re-download it.

I tried this and it didn't work. I'd be grateful for any more advice

Does it make a difference that i switched from a dead premium to an elite?

My theory is that for this to work, your console has to have been processed through MS via a repair.

My first console died (voided warranty) and I've had no luck using this method with my 2nd console to get back the license for the premium stuff I downloaded on the first console.

I am sending the dead one off for repair. I plan to sell the replacement. Perhaps the method will work once it's been processed?

Mine cracked under the pressure of about 50 hours use in the last 22 months, and now has to be sent back too.

A bit disappointed that it should break after such little use - Have set the ball in motion, so will see how long it takes to be collected/returned.
