Here's a new one. After hours of flawless use today, I go and get some scran. I come back and switch the 360 on. That's strange, the wireless headset isn't blinking. I try to switch it on. No power. Odd. I plug in the USB charger. Nothing.

No charging, no power, no lights of any kind.

      wtf??

It could be bust. One of my wireless controllers went that way. MS were kind enough to replace it. If you can't get it working, phone them up and tell them the problem and tell them you bought it within the last twelve months - hopefully they'll replace it. Obviously return it to the shop if it was in the last 12 months.

SOB but I've only had it for a few months. Do microsoft make the shoddiest components known to man?

I'll get a new one in the meantime and then ring up India to see if they'll replace it.

          cheers dood.

BOO I sucked it up and have paid MS to repair my machine. It's a launch unit, and the damn thing refused to RROD. In fairness, it's not too bad a price... £56 total... and I know I'm gonna need the thing with stuff like Fable 2, Sonic, Fallout 3. Gears 2 and Resi 5 coming.

I was basically getting DRE's on certain specific games at certain specific points. Game discs were fine, MS were even good enough to send me a free replacement Halo 3, same problems at the same time. It also constantly froze during the Too Human demo.

Is there any reason why you can't just tell them it RRODd? Is there some way they can tell?

From what I gather, the machine has some kind of diagnostic log that lists what errors it's received. Whether they actually check this is another matter. They'd see loads of 2 red lights from an obvious attempt at forcing an overheat, anyway.

But I also realised that I didn't wanna end up with someone elses dodgy refurb anyway.

Despite forcibly overheating the thing 5 times this morning, I'm playing Dead Rising on it right now.

TBH, even if they do have a system for recording errors (doubtful, if you ask me) you can just argue with them. They're not going to risk calling a customer a liar, especially when any such system is likely to be error-prone. It just doesn't amount to sufficient proof for them to risk your loyalty.

Well, got my machine back. Tried the games that gave DRE's, worked great! Hurray!

I then feel like playing PDZ, I try to load Mission 01... DRE.

                    GRRR.

Tried it on my brothers machine, so the disc is fine. Back to MS it goes...

That sucks, this is where you call up and of coure say "I paid £56 for WHAT??" and try get some cash back, or compensation some way.
Shoddy when you actually pay up hard cash and they send it back to you like that, dont they test these consoles before they send out?

The positive is that you get a fresh new warranty when they repair it. It's just a pain in the ass to have to go through this again.

Make a distinct mark on the tray (like a scratch). That way, you won't have to second guess as to whether or not they have replaced the drive.

I did this with mine when it was faulty and sure enough, they replaced the motherboard and sent me back the same faulty drive.

Yeah, the letter thet packaged with it only stated motherboard change... but the games it used to disc read error on work fine now, so the drive is definately different. It's just still a crap drive. But yeah, that's good advice, I'll do that in future.

The DRE's are always at the same specific places on a game, but the discs are fine. It's bizzare.

Just had the red lights on my launch 360, poor little guy did so well it's sad to see him finally go. Guess the 3 year warranty was up in december though so quite good timing.

                                Quick question:

My first 360 mucked up so I took it back to GAME with my reciet. They gave me a brand new one. 10 or so months later (under a year of having the new one), it's now cocked up again.

So is it still possible to get another one from Game again? As they wrote on my reciet 'exchanged 2/11/07' So I guess the new conoles warranty is counted from then, rather than the purchase of my first 360.
