    Thanks for the link Alex.

EDIT: When I finish entering in all the details it tells me 'my request can't be completed, please contact customer support'. Well that's exactly what I didn't want to do! I checked the stuff I entered is correct, but it still has the same error. For christ sake.

Truely epic read on how things came to be the way they are.
I've read my fair share on this topic and this piece is by far the most comprehensive look behind the scenes.

It certainly won't answer any questions about whether or not they've learned their lesson though.
Like others have said most of this is known to the masses, my thought is how have they got away with it for so long? Yea I now MS have deep pockets but there must be some pretty pissed off investors somewhere.

Yes that is a surprsingly interesting read and that information, if I've understood correctly, that initially over a third of manufactured units failed before they even left the factories is incredible.

One thing - at the end it seems to be saying that the Jasper 65nm version is now in the market place. Is that true here (UK) and, if so, how can it be identified?

News of the Valhalla, combined CPU/GPU version, was also fresh to me and, quite frankly I'll be happy to wait for that even though I'm increasingly feel a bit left behind not having a current gen console.

Roll on the ?!00 XB360 I say - roughly the price I paid for my first PS, XBox, DC and PS2.

This is a Six page piece and it doesn't really start until page 2.

Microsoft’s mea culpa In many ways, the Xbox 360 was a big achievement. Microsoft had beaten its rivals Sony and Nintendo to market by a year. Sony had outsold Microsoft five-to-one in the previous generation of consoles, but Microsoft has outsold Sony’s PlayStation 3 with the Xbox 360. Microsoft’s to game executive Bach (left) had […]

Poor page layout makes this look like it finishes after page 1 and people I've linked to it have though that the 'Pages: 1 2 3 4 5 6' at the bottom were for comments. They are not.

Sorry mmcg if you were only commenting on the first page, I can understand that confusion if that was the case.
Ahh, didn't realise it was 6 pages. Still useless though.

I believe that the Jaspers are in production and due to emerge (if not already) any day now.
Some people have speculated that the arrival of the 60gb units has also heralded in the Jaspers. But its going to have to take someone opening the case to finally indentify one before we know what to look for.

I disagree, I found it fascinating.

I had the same problem and ended up just phoning them and had no problems at all.

The Valhalla isn't in production yet, I don't think we'll be seeing those for a while yet. They'll probably wait until sales start to tail off and then announce a price drop, which will be funded by the cheaper-to-manufacture units with new motherboards, smaller chip dies etc.

Hate to sound like a whiner, but these past few weeks of having to send my 360 back and forth to Microsoft has really got me down on the 360. I plan to take one of the HD consoles with me to uni, and it was going to be the 360... but I'm seriously considering taking the PS3 instead because I don't want to have to deal with these hassles while I'm there. With stuff like Resident Evil 5, Fallout 3, Sonic Unleashed, Tomb Raider: Underworld etc being multiformat...

My 360 is so noisey that I've stopped playing it regularly as it really annoys me. Thinking about getting a PS3....

Here's a weird one. Got my 3600 back today. I left a scratch on the bottom of my drive, and sure enough, scratch is still there. Same drive, new motherboard. My heart sank.

So I fire up PDZ anyway, get to the bit where it DRE's... and it works! So, a new motherboard fixed the DRE. How the hell does that work?

One of my mate's has had his third Elite die - he's average a new Elite every 4 months right now! Each time it's been new from Gamestation. He's more hopeful this time, as this is the quietest one he's had, he even checked there was air flow coming out it was so quiet apparently! A new power brick with lots of holes in it.

Is this the new chipset appearing? The manufacture date is last month.

I'm giving the 360 one last go. All multiplatform games I'm gonna buy on PS3 from now on, but the 360 will be needed for stuff like Fable 2. Lets see how long mine lasts.

Sorry for the double post. That was fun while it lasted... no DRE's when the console first arrived. Now the DRE's have started again on the same disc (probably because they never actually changed the DVD drive).

Final straw MS, you can keep your console. Looks like it's PS3 time for me. Call me when MS make working consoles.

Did you tell them there were issues with the DVD drive? When my first console red ringed they changed the MB and drive for me. I didn't think anything was wrong with it.
