360 Issues thread

    Well if nothing else my 360 has impeccable timing. Turned 12 months old over the weekend (or at least my original purchase did) and the 360 decided to celebrate with a relentless display of 3 red lights ft: The machine is completely dead on its arse now and has gone the way of the original launch machine I had with a combination of red lights, and checkerboard screen.

    Not sure what options I now have ! I presume Game will not take it in for an exchange as it is over 12 months old according to my original receipt. My only option is another refurb from MS I presume, which I would think they have to supply FOC as my current (refurb) has a manufacturing date of 26/12/05, and should therefore still have some warranty left.

    If I'd got off my arse and exchanged the machine a month ago, I would not be in this position now, but alas I did not ft: My advise to anyone who has doubts over their machines condition and have any time on there original warranty left is to switch it out now, don't wait till that warranty has run out.

    If MS do kindly send me another refurb then I think I will ebay it at a discount price, cut my losses, and buy a fresh machine. Wonder if there are any HD-DVD discount packs coming out, could wait for that which would ease the pain a little.

      Does anyone know the average wait for getting your 360 back now? I sent it last Tuesday and was hoping it'd be back within the week as my first one was something like a 3 day turn around.

        update killed my 360

        logged onto my 360 for the first time in a while today and I got asked to do an update

        after the update i am getting the dreaded ring of red lights and it no longer works.

        has this happened to anyone else and when your 360 does die, how did you arrange a replacement? from the store or microsoft?

          Sad news, guess this was the display update from 2 or 3 weeks back.

          Store replacement would be quicker obviously (and easier), take it you've still got the receipt etc, where did you get it from ?

            Out of interest, what would be the legal position if an out-of-warranty 360 broke thanks to a dash update? Would be a bit much if MS didn't fix it, no?

              ****. Launch core, bought 2 weeks after launch from a forumer and was just playing the 360, decided to play the small arms demo, freeze.

              Then, the red ring of DEATH.

              I'm so pissed. Missus has got me GoW for Xmas and I'm gonna be behind on PSU. AAAARGH.

              EDIT - Just tried again, got the 360 switchy onny intro and it froze halfway through the 'fwoompf' sound, so put it in the coldest room of the house and will try later.

                  rang microsoft they are gonna arrange a collection for me, the only thing is he sent it to my home address and not work so i won't be in, have to phone ups to get them to collect from a different place.

                        9 minutes? Took me bloody half an hour and still didn't get through.

                        Trying again the now. More Air to listen to. Great. (it is Air isnt it?)

                        EDIT - Okay, 15 mins to get through, horribly foreign lady, said I need to provide my own box and they're going to send me a label and get me to call a courier and arrange collection.

                        From what I understood, they were supposed to give me boxes, right?

                          Yeah an otter service so far. Had to get my own box too. UPS guy picked it up last friday, almost a week now and all the tracking site says is that it was delivered on monday. no good for a man itching to play nhl 2k7.

                            You now have to provide your own box.

                            They've had my console since last Tuesday according to UPS and I still don't have it back.

                            Both times I rang them I ended up with a foreign lady who was obviously trying to help but really didn't seem to know what was happening, along with not speaking or understanding english very well at all.

                              my play and charge kit dont charge. tried it on a m8s box it was fine. I hoped the update would sort this issue but no luck.

                                got my x360 back from ms today (08.12.06) - it was collected on 01.12.06 so I'm pretty pleased with the level of service - they have replaced the console with a new one so thats a result

                                hopefully MS have addressed the quite obvious problems that were affecting the intial production run of the x360
